sup /fa/, /fit/ guy here.

bought a bunch of nice as fuck clothes for some dates i have planned with my girlfriend. nice shirts, pants, ties, etc. but I don't know what kinda shoes to wear. it's all dress clothes, super dark grey pants (almost black) and a lighter grey pair as well.

was planning on getting black dress shoes but i have no idea what kind to get

anyone care to help? pls, i need to look good in 3 weeks because I'm gonna propose on our anniversary ;_;

>> No.8348793

forgot to post this as well. These are the only dress shoes I own right now: http://www.amazon.com/Deer-Stags-Times-Plain-Oxford/dp/B000FVWMAK

I'm going into law enforcement (inb4 all that hatred) and these were cheap and did the job for tests, interviews, etc. uncomfortable as fuck and ugly as fuck, though. so i want some new ones that don't look like i'm a 60 year old man

>> No.8348820

Those shoes you posted are horrendous. Should have just saved the money for a better pair. What is your price range?

not sure, trying to keep it around 100 bucks if possible. Just spent 500 on the dress clothes, and 2000 on repairs for my truck. kinda broke at the moment. and yeah the ones i posted are fuck ugly. trying to avoid shoes like that now. everyone recommends I get oxfords but I havent seen any that look decent

Alright, well don't know much about that price range. However, I may still be able to help. First, an alternative you could always try are chelsea boots. I personally don't like dress shoes, so I wear chelseas when needed. However, it may not always be a good option.
Now back to dress shoes, your best bet is going to be dsw.com You can get some shoes at a deal, & since you don't seem to care all too much what they are, I think it can work. Upon a quick lookup of oxfords, this was the first black pair (you will need black with gray pants) & it is already looking a lot better than what you have, & is in your price range.

Hope it helps.

I hate it when retailers incorrectly label shoe styles

/fa/ is a very slow board, 20 minutes is nothing. Be prepared.

If you wanna save money, asos. I bought a pair of dress shoes for a one off on asos 2 years ago. I wear a suit to work so I've been wearing them constantly since December, still in great shape which is really surprising. Either way, you can cop decent shoes for way under $100 on sale. Pretty sure there's one on now, I'd suggest just going on the site and searching "Derby shoes", it's a pretty versatile model. Alternatively just search formal shoes and price range and see what you like.

OP here, thanks for the replies. Looking into the suggestions now. props for the DSW link.

These are the ones I like the most, so far. I'm gonna need 14's so it limits me a little.

any opinions would be awesome. I'm totally lost here. I only ever wear jeans and vans.

I like the look of the Steve Madden most.
I don't like a glossy look like on two of those shoes, but that's just me.
Avoid the asos.
You said you'll need 14, but shoes sometimes run big. Just look into it, because a 13 might work.

I wear a 15 in vans and asics, 14-15 in nike depending on the shoe. so yeah it's weird how shoes run. I'm going to call some stores near me now to see what sizes they carry. only legit dress shoe place near me is a stacy adams store though. sucks ordering online when you can't try them on.

why avoid asos? the brand, look, or both?

>> No.8349322

Alright, thanks for the input. I'll probably just have to go into the Stacy's place and try some on, and hope they have some that look decent.
