I don't understand. I was making a retail quality comparison between the hm/old navy tier to the aa/gap tier. There can be no question in your mind that gap clothes are higher quality than hm. So clearly there exists a market for a mid tier furniture retailer similar to ikea with higher quality furniture and therefore a retailer in that market should exist.

I picked up a mahogany coffee table for $20 from a garage sale. Got a solid oak bookcase for like $200 from a furniture shop where the guy makes his own stuff. All Ikea sells is MDF plasterboard shit for inflated prices.

you'd have to find actual industrial design studios for /fa/ level exclusivity and design. I'm sure they exist in all major cities. look at blogs contemporist, moco loco, etc.
