I'm heading of to uni next month, and I have $500 to spend on clothes. What can I get to start myself out with what is considered, "fashionable."

If it helps I'm 6'3 and somewhere between skinnyfat and ottermode.

Not trying to be an asshole but, there is no best. It's 100% subjective. A lot of people on here seem to like black and white basics.

Depends on how much you're looking to cop, the style you're going for, and if you want cheap or quality items.

>> No.8219375

with a $500 budget you aren't really getting all the way there but you can get a few really strong pieces for a capsule

if you really don't like what you already have at all the most versatile and inoffensive starting points i could imagine (with no regard to your climate, since you didn't tell us that) would be white sneakers (achilles lows, vans authentics), skinny/slim black jeans, and a light jacket (bomber, parka, soft shell, etc.) in black or olive, and a stack of tee shirts

start with basics. Haven, Oi Polloi, and Up There Store all cover a good range of brands for shirts, shoes, etc. but I recommend you shop used. get a pair of dark indigo jeans, a pair of black pants, a pair of versatile shorts, plain tshirts, versatile sneakers and shoes and outerwear as you see fit. do some research on brands you see on websites to learn more about the popular brands (i.e. APC, Norse Projects, Common Projects) and others (3sixteen, Sunspel, sophnet)

>> No.8219384

>>8219375
expanding on this since looking back that post doesn't help a hell of a lot -

more white sneaker recommendations (since the two i gave are lows):
nike blazers (white/gray), chuck taylor high tops (avoid the stripes if possible), stan smiths, af1's

recommendations for jeans:
levi's, uniqlo, unbranded (good quality, good price point, 0 branding), acne, n&f

get tees from uniqlo, maybe target?

not sure about clearer jacket recommendations

This.
Dress to what suits your body type, don't feel you have to wear things just because they are considered fa/ no one around you will know you paid $100+ for a plain white t-shirt or jeans.
Having said that Uniqlo, J-Crew or END.

>> No.8219449

Not OP here, but thought i'd ask some stuff. I've been lurking here for a while and am trying to gather some good quality basics together to form a wardrobe, however I feel like I should have some sort of person 'style', just don't know what it is yet.

I'm thinking either some sort of clean, minimalist streetwear orientated style (thinking simple graphic tees, beanies, maybe tapered sweats for chillin, none of the swagfag sort of shit with attention seeking logos.
Or maybe a few classic traditional english pieces. I'm from rural UK so I have a fair few stuff like old barbour jackets, shetland wool jumpers, shit like that. Just always been fond of it, good quality and cosy as fuck.
Obviously it would be stupid to ask anyone to decide this for me but just wondering if anyone dresses similarly to any of this and how they put together fits?

For basics I was thinking something like this

tees - sunspel
sweatshirts/pullover hoodies - reigning champ
zip thru hoodie - sunspel (my friend has one of these and it is so soft i want to touch it all day).
sweatpants - not sure, thinking reigning champ? I kind of want tapered ones though
jeans - I have light wash nudies, nudie raws and some shitty black topman jeans (all skinny fit)
shoes - Got white vans, dark red new balances, white nike blazers. Ideally though I'd want CPs too.
Also can anyone reccommend good underwear/socks?

Not OP here but I don't really see why everyone is kicking off so much about people asking questions, nobody is saying you're obligated to advise people and you could easily just ignore this thread.

Some of us have been lurking here a little while, we've read the sticky and we can see what's "/fa/ approved" but we're just looking for some examples of some directions that other members have headed in in terms of adding a bit of personal style to a wardrobe so we don't look completely 'dressed by the internet'.

Nobody's trying to steal your look and we aren't going to come across eachother IRL, I get that good taste is opinion based but it would be nice to ask some people with more experience say... 'I've got these basics, I want to lean a bit towards X look, is there anything I should get/avoid particularly?"

on that budget you should just get some decent nikes or new balances and try to find some acne jeans on sale (use farfetch) or maybe cop naked and famous (there's a lot of bnwt for less than 100 on grailed) and then just cop as many half decent tees as you can find depending on your budget constraints. maybe throw a pair of skinny joggers in there or something

Thanks man, yeah the vans were mostly beaters that I hope i can replace with CPs in a while.
Was looking at APC Petit New Standards for jeans but I'm not sure I want raws, if I get black raw denim is it going to turn grey when I start washing it, same goes for light blue denim, is it going to take ages to get the dark indigo colour to a light blue?
sunspel underwear sounds good, will have a look.

How can I wear hoodies without looking like a high schooler? I do spend a decent amount of time in casual wear either through lounging around the house or just going to/from sports activities.
Also - should t shirts always fit 'correctly' or is this a matter of opinion? I have an athletic body shape but just wearing a plain, fitted tee with jeans gives a clean cut, 'jock' sort of look but I wouldn't say its /fa/ as such, i'd rather not be a tight t shirt sort of guy, can I go baggier and fold the sleeves up once or twice or is this an absolute no? I have quite big broad shoulders so I find looser t shirts drape kind of nicely.

2 much effort for something so mediocre
only thing they have going for them is the durability but if u wear a pair of jeans every day for 6 months they're gonna get fucked up even if they are from nippon so just get some light wash or black from any "mid tier" brand that has the best fit 4 u
buy used
>hoodies
they're ok and look aight if u layer with them but i much prefer a clean sweatshirt
they dont add much functionality either , if it's cold then wear a hat , if it rains a lot invest in a rain coat etc
>t shirt fits
depends on what u want
i prefer a "fitted" look but others like drapes or oversized and so on
just keep experimenting and changing stuff around as u c fit
u have a good 70 years 2 wear whatever the fuck u want so dont worry 2 much about it

Hi guys, I would say I have a budget of approx. $1500 to spend on clothes in the next year. I'm not sure what price range of tees is worth getting with this budget.

Like, how much better is a sunspel or acne tee than a uniqlo or h&m tee?. I own shit loads of the h&m ones and they do the trick fine, can replace anytime, never bought uniqlo ones.
Considering say, a sunspel tee costs 4x as much as a uniqlo supima tee, it is worth buying these on my budget or am I better off sticking to uniqlo/h&m and spending my budget elsewhere?

>>8219563

Cheers again, will go try some different brands of jeans and see what I like.

With the t shirts and 'fitted' versus oversized/drapey - If i say... go for an oversized tee do I have to wear oversized sweatshirts, hoodies, jumpers etc. too? It seems like a tee poking out the bottom of a hoodie/sweat would look silly, or a long, oversized tee with a fitted bomber I can imagine would look strange

i don't hear people recommend sunspel so much, i'd recommend one of the other brands we hype here. in your budget if all of your tees are h&m/uniqlo tier i would say that now is the time to get a few good tees- you don't need to splurge like crazy but norse projects in two or three colors and an acne in whatever your favorite style is would really help your wardrobe generally speaking. don't go crazy though, you want to save some of that money for shit like shoes and pants that's going to consume most of your guap.

generally speaking just figure out which categories of your wardrobe have the lowest general quality and target those first, or if quality is pretty much even all around, go for whichever has the least variety and style
