Natural History Museum: huge, original research, regular exhibits, more samples than anywhere, more Darwin than you can shake a stick at

Tbh Tate Modern is a shitty example - better for exhibitions and its general look than it is for permanent displays but still

V&A has regular fashion related stuff
If you're looking for big name mainstream artists London is one behind Paris but leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the world - and I think the lesser known artists make up for the defect in hyper-pricey enlightenment art
