Why does this cost $2000? Is it because it was on the runway, so it's like a piece of fashion history? I guess that's a reasonable enough justification, since collector's stamps can go for much more, but I wouldn't use a $2000 stamp for any sort of letter.

Rick's nylon's and other synthetic fabrics have a pretty great reputation. They're kind of his more modern alternative to silk and wherever he's sourcing them from, the hand is pretty great. The outerwear tends to price pretty high because of the amount of cut-and-sew work and this one has a ton as well as lots of notions like zippers and snaps. Pricing is a function of lots of things like raw materials, logistics, labor, and so on. New/seasonal styles also tend to command pretty high prices because sometimes they aren't repeated or come in a specific, more detailed version.

At the end of the day, all designer ready-to-wear is a luxury and you just have to decide for yourself if the quality of design and manufacture are worthwhile investments of your time and money.

I guess I don't have trouble believing that, but how am I supposed to know that I'm not being rused? I mean, doesn't raf sell used milsurp at high unjustified mark-ups? I feel very out of the loop here. Is all expensive clothing high quality, or, at least, expensive to make?

>> No.8197641

>>8197613

Most folks know about scalability and whatnot so when designers produce really small runs of things, it's obviously always going to raise the cost per unit to produce. Raf's production, as with most other designers in that tier, is split between Italy and Portugal now (made possible by the Euro zone), though older pieces were made in Belgium.

It's kind of hard to justify the cost purely in terms of material value, because you're obviously paying for the design and you're also paying to support a business. When you buy a Raf product, those dollars go to everyone from the guy who sews the shirt to the account director in the showroom to the casting agent who hires the models to the producer who arrange the runway shows to Raf himself. You're not just buying a product, but the entire chain of production involved in designing, making, exposing, and distributing that product.

>> No.8197679

Thanks, that was pretty helpful.

What I got out of that is that while designer stuff is high quality, you still have to be somewhat interested in the actual process and the "fashion world" or whatever, and I get that.

>> No.8197699

>>8197679

Definitely. I mean, the world is way flatter and you've got tons of people making things at tons of price points, so while it's good to keep in mind what the serious leaders of the pack are doing (e.g. how Rick is cutting leather, how Raf is tweaking proportions, how Ghesquire is blocking patterns, etc.), but there are also lots of people at boutique/contemporary price points that are trying to introduce interesting, modern design into real clothes for more than just the luxury segment of shoppers. Personally, I think that in the current world, the mid-market is where the innovation that counts is because that's where you see people actually picking up new ideas and deciding whether or not they're actually workable for them.

A lot of the diffusion/collaboration brands that are closely aligned with the mainline brands are always good because their whole goal is to turn really aggressive, directional styles into stuff that works for a broader range of clients. SILENT, Raf for Fred Perry, Y-3, Rad by Rad Hourani, Versus come to mind.

Then you've also got brands that operate strictly within the boutique category and are trying to distinguish themselves specifically for NOT aiming at upper price points and trying to offer more design than comparatively priced brands. In that vein, I think of stuff like Assembly New York, Wings + Horns, Folk, and even the current incarnation of Helmut Lang for women's. Think CO-OP type brands.

Usually between 4-10% of the item cost and both domestic (ie to them) and international (ie to you) shipping, but rates on both are pretty good.
fromjapan is the best proxy I've used, with the lowest fees.

You can also consider jauce, they charge rather higher fees but they do offer a real-time bidding service that can be useful if you need to bid on something that ends, like, right right now.

For reference, the 32s aren't painfully tight or anything, so I could probably fit a 31 without it being too ridiculously tight, but the sale is an "all sales are final" kind of deal so I don't want to risk them running small and wind up selling them on Grailed.

for the blue/white try something that matches the shade of white. or something that contrasts with the blue. maybe black even

for the orange idk, light blue maybe? i think anything moderately dark would be too clashing

I just have pair of black skinnies, I stopped dressing #workwear type shit a while ago so the whole raw denim thing doesn't really interest me, but I don't know what other pants I should get...gray jeans maybe? Or cargos? Mainly wearing white CP's, mono 1461s and black raf Velcros if that's any help. Kinda like these pants from a waywt, anyone know w2c?

dark grey jeans have always been a favourite of mine. but I have never found a pair that are truely what I want. They either fall apart too quick or are too light in colour.

>tfw will never have a nxt lvl fit because manlet and t-rex legs ruins silhouette

It's cool though, I prioritize being strong/swole over looking fashionable neway. At least I don't have the silhouette of a doughy MFAer.
