I like the look of Clarks desert boots but the things feel like flat boards with loose leather uppers. Can anyone suggest similar looking boots/shoes that have support or padding like a modern shoe?

Or do I just need to put in insoles and let them break in for a month?

Yeah, there are a million chukka boots out there and I don't know which ones have both a vintage look and have modern foot support.

Common Projects do chukkas with a sneaker sole

I prefer the Desert Boots though frankly. If you think the uppers are loose, try sizing down one, they run large

I'm a 10.5 and I tried 10s in the store. They were a good snug fit but I couldn't go any smaller. I think the opening for the leg is just on these boots. Maybe a third lace eye would fix it.

The sole doesn't bother me. It's more the insole with no arch or heel support. Can you rip the insoles out of these? I usually wear Superfeet blues in my other shoes.

be like me and have flatfeet

then youll need to bring your custom orthotic insoles to every store u want to try on shoes and get rejected by almost every pair bc ur soles are either too thick or too wide for ur pair

I read they run large and should be purchased a size smaller. I've got a pair of these coming in (beeswax), and I wanted to avoid that mistake again Like I had with my JD Fisk bikers, which are nice, but have 3 fucking insoles just to make them not fall off my feet.

Rip out the stock insoles if they're glued in. But you can't do that when trying on shoes in a store obviously.
