ebay and forums. these are long gone but still pop up every now and then. chances are your size will be hard to find if one does pop up. you can get the regular dayton boots but they aren't distressed so they dont have the same shape. I'm sure you could do it yourself by tying it up and soaking it in water but do so at your own risk. also dayton boots have built up a bad reputation for shitty quality and service the past few years. I wouldn't recommend you even get their boots.

I have some boots they made for Yuketen, and I love them but there are definitely flaws. like the brogueing is a bit off in places, and I'm no leather expert but the way the leather is creasing on one of the boots suggests, I think, that they don't always use the best bits of the hide

but I still think they're great and I'm still glad I bought them

I don't know when the W+H thing was going on, but mine would have been made for F/W 2013

I don't know if I'd recommend Dayton to anyone, but if you get a sale price they're not so bad

the sole is what I like about them, it's ridiculous

I don't care for shoes that look too self-serious, I like ridiculous tacky shit

the thing I liked about the boots that made me buy them, other than the sole, is the way the natural leather color is visible in the brogueing and the sides of the leather pieces, so it's not so thoroughly black

for the most part, Visvim doesn't excite me terribly

partly because they cost a lot more than they should. I've handled some visvim boots and they felt like a lot of markup for the name/design

the whole hybrid thing, where they're part tech and part tradition, is interesting. I think it makes them a lot easier to do with streetwear and tech stuff. but it also makes them fundamentally very different, I think, from stuff like Viberg.

visvim remind me, in a way, of shit like Minnetonka. I know that sounds like an insult, but let me explain: it appropriates really "traditional" styles, but does them in a way that you would never mistake for the original, because it's unmistakably a product of modern production and tastes. Visvim does it more deliberately, and better, of course. But the vibe still doesn't feel far off, to me. With visvim, the way to wear it is to emphasize how much it's not traditional -- it's deliberately exotic, but it's absolutely modern, so you put it with streetwear, techwear, etc. To me, that makes sense. But if you try to pair it with stuff that actually wants to keep tradition alive or revisit it in a deeper way (to pick another japanese brand, Kapital is an example of this -- what separates Kapital from a lot of the brands they get lumped with is that Kapital has almost no interest, as far as I can tell, in being modern), it just doesn't work, I think.

but I'm sure other people don't see it the same way.

>> No.8113626

>>8113597
i agree with everything youve said. viberg and other brands def are better quality to price ratio.
the hybrid style is what really appeals to me tho.

you know your shit :)

>>8113597
that said, Viberg's boots can feel a little bit hybrid too because they are just a manufacturer, and the boots that actually get ordered reflect some mix of the tastes of the stockist and the older style of production that actually produces them.

so you can have a boot designed by someone who wants it to reflect modern tastes, but the boot is still being made by people who care first and foremost about the traditional quality of the boot, and making it the way they know how to.

so it's hybrid in a really different way than how visvim is hybrid. and to me it feels like a more naturally occurring hybridity, it's not as deliberate

Brett Viberg in interview:
"I'm not a designer, I don't know anything about it, I just do stuff and that's one of the great things about having the factory. I just make sure that it's authentic to what we do, and not make a fashion product. Otherwise it becomes cheap, and it's not good anymore. Just becoming friends with Nigel - his logic - I mean his is a fashion product but it's heavy; it's authentic stuff. I need to keep what we do in anything I want to do with it; otherwise I'm going too far from our actual roots. It might not be Americana/heritage stuff, but the inside of the boot will be the same."

>>8113626
I actually know very, very little about production or the history or anything like that. I just know how I feel when I look at something. So this is me guessing, in a way
