how do niche fashion designers like rick owens actually make a lot of money? their stuff is expensive and not that much known to the general public, so its just that 1% of people interested in fashion that knows of him (or even less than 1%)
so considering the prices and the looks of the garments not everyone is attracted to how does he actually make enough money to live like a baller

Rick isn't as niche as you think. Plus the markup is huge (not saying the quality isn't good) which means they make a large profit per item, which goes to the designer.
Also 1% of people is 700 million people. If even .01% of that bought one item from a designer, they'd be rolling in it.
