Who is currently growing out their hair from short to long? Let's talk about awkward stages, bad hair days and mullets. I'm currently 5 weeks in so I'm just starting out from a really short cut Eventually I want to be able to pull it back and tie it so I reckon that will take about an year. It still looks like I wanted it to be this way, so I'm not sure when I will hit the awkward stage if I ever do at all, because my hair is straight and manageable. I wear a beanie regardless because I'm not happy with it being this short (yeah it was pretty long before I chopped it off weeks ago.)

I can now tie it back and my last cut was sometime in August 2013. There's nothing I could do during that time, it looked patchy and all over the place, but you have to put up with it until you can do a messy slick back with your fingers. Start tying it up as soon as it doesn't look stupid tied up.

Also, if this is a long term thing you're doing. Start caring for your hair. Use quality products, don't damage it etc. It'll be worth it in the end.

What are good shampoos and conditioners for someone who's growing out really thick, fluffy, wavy hair? I'd like for it to become more manageable since it has a tendency to fall in my face and I can't push it back too much without it shifting back into place. I'm hoping, however, that once it becomes long enough, the weight of the hair itself will allow me to bun it.

Same, buzzed mid August. Have been letting it grow since then and currently just running around with some Brixton Fiddler cap + slickback (does not look that bad actually), or bound at the back of my head, hair on the side behind the ears and hair on top/front just falls to the side.

I feel you, anything past this length and my hair grows straight out in curly knots. And yes, I know it's a bad picture I've shaved. But yeah, if you have curly hair the back is gonna be a bitch as it gets longer and looks all uneven on both sides behind your neck. If I wore a cap, (like required for work) it'd appear as if I had a mullet. I tried trimming it but then it looks like you have a mop on your head with nothing in the back. I'm just keeping it in a beanie until I can tie it back.

Same, more or less. I've got a top-knot going on at the moment that has been working pretty well, but all the hair isn't long enough to tie it up yet.

I "fake it" with pomade, slick it back and then tie the hair that IS long enough into the band. It works, I promise.

I'm finally at the point where my hair is long enough that it doesn't look completely retarded pulled back. Took about 3 - 4 months from a medium length HY-type thing.

Awkward stage was over winter. Wore beanies, now it's long enough to wear down and look good, and also tie up (all), looks like shit but is practical for gym, I can try the back-top up for a glorious manbun but the rest is hanging down and looks weird unless i wear a bandana or something. Going to chill till julyish and see what's going on then, if I still want the manbun i'll clean up the sides to get more layers in to make me look more asian.

I did no poo for a bit and got compliments but I just couldnt do it any longer cus i sometimes use product to keep it all in place.

I'm going to a formal event tonight and need to do something with my hair other than the hats and headbands I've been wearing since I started growing it.

Should I just straight put it all back or should I part it? Whenever I try to put it back or part it it always ends up getting in my face and looks terrible but I don't have very many options

What kind of product should I put in it? Part of the problem is probably because I use shitty paste type stuff that I'm not even sure is for my hair type, it just worked when I had short hair

Haven't cut my hair on top since September. The sides were previously shaved cos I had an undercut,.but I've been growing that out since December.

Right now I feel like the sides are too short and it's turning into a mullet lol. The length on top can reach below my chin if I pull it down, so it's grown a lot. I don't mind it tho, maybe looking to get a decent manbun if possible.
