Speculation: Classic watches are dead.

>Guy buys a classic watch
You paid $1000 for a watch that can't even tell you the weather, play flappy bird, start your car, or even text! LMAO!

>But muh durability muh heritage
waterproof/stainless steel, you can change the band if you want. Battery life has been made the top priority.

If this blows up in the market, people are going to call you grand dad for wearing classic watches, similar to how no one wears, suspenders, fedoras, or smokes from pipes anymore. Especially if they are sub $1,000.

What does /fa/ make of these new android watches? Will you cop or not?

imo it's probably going to be viewed the same way as google glass - "only a nerd would get something like that!" but then in 5-10 years those same people will be getting them when they're mainstream

personally i like smartwatches and tech stuff

Watches died a long time ago. They've been impractical for decades. It functions no better than a bracelet. Yet men don't wear bracelets. They shouldn't wear watches by the same logic. It's been nothing but dumb and awkward for years now.

A tech watch will never function as practically as a smartphone, so its whole purpose is dumb.

If you're wearing a watch for a wrist decoration instead of a bracelet, you're stupid.
If you're wearing a bracelet, you're stupid.
If you're wearing a tech watch for practicality, you're stupid.

Basically if you wear anything on your wrist for any reason you're a fucking retard, unless you somehow made a bracelet look good.

that's retarded to compare a watch to a bracelet though considering that watches were intended for both looks and practicality.

Now that practicality in watches is non-existant that still leaves the aspect of the look. Even more the look aspect can be disguised under the pretense of practicality since not everyone is euphoric enough to consider watches as dead. So fuck bracelets.

People who buy luxury watches (Patek, Audemars etc) don't do it to keep track of time.

Truth.

A few yes ago I was working in a place cell phones were not allowed, some old dude came up and asked the time, none of me or my coworkers could answer.
He laughed and said
>"20yrs ago all of you would have a watch and be able to tell time."
Kinda stuck with me

I feel naked without it.

It's going to be like e-books. Might be cool for like a few weeks but will die. Technology doesn't have to replace everything on the face of the earth, just look at e-books. I've never met a single person (especially younger people) who have ever had any interest in using an e-book reader over physical books. It's something old people do just because its new and different but it won't last.
