Depends on the skill level.
All of the arts are pretty cringe-worthy until you get into the advanced or well above average range.

Problem is if you'll always think your work is shit if you surround yourself with god level material of your field, so it's hard to tell when you're out of the cringe-zone.

My girlfriend and all her friends are 4-year fine arts college graduates. All but one of them are employed out of their field and most at minimum wage.

This is also true.

It is good to think that your work is shit, because it gives you the motivation to do better, to perfect your art.

This is charcoal. The picture is from my phone, and it doesn't do it any justice.

I like it.
Needs more definition, try upping the contrast a notch compared to what you see before you when you're drawing. By half-shutting your eyes, you can see which parts should be highlighted and which should be darkened to hell. That's what you should try to portray on the paper (excession in contrast, as though headlights are lighting it up). Nobody can really manage that much contrast, so the end result will actually be much closer to what you actually see in front of you, and much more impressive.
>tl;dr strike for more contrast to reach a more realistic level of texture and tone

i dislike explaining things because it always ends up sounding generic or snobby etc

I spraypainted that shape on the back of a uniform and had my brother takes pictures of me in the woods in new york
I took ones I liked and made a sort of story, 'an individual's journey' and it's like chapters or particular points in life. the little title cards are referencing that, life being a question or journey
there's also little things that I didn't do on purpose that just came out and I like
4 pictures, 3/4 in nature one indoors
my hair is up in 1/4
my feet are at the bottom of 3/4, im sort of in the middle of the last
