quick question /fa/

>buy Canadian Army parade boots because muh milsurp
>guy at the store tells me that they're coated with some type of wax for protection
>said wax can be removed with very hot water

Is this true? the boots are very shiny, and I want to dull them down a bit, maybe throw some sno-seal just in case. AFAIK I cannot use the sno-seal if the boots have the supossed wax layer. How would I know when the layer is off?

thanks

yeah I noticed the same thing with my British army boots

I ran them under a hot tap one morning bcus I got loads of mud on them the night before and I noticed loads of little black flakes coming off the shoes

I don't know if it was a wax as much as it was years of polishing. But I cleaned them both under a hot tap and then polished/waterproofed them myself. They look much better now.

What do you mean by 'better'?

ok but wouldn't the saddle soap be somewhat useless because of the wax layer?

either they are coated in a wax for protection, as the guy said, and that it'll just come off with a cleaner, or it's coated in a plastic, like docs et. al., and you'll probably fug them up by pouring boiling water on them

(you'll probly fuck them if you pour too hot water on them anyway - get a polish stripper)
