Hold my hand, my boy. I will show you the way.

Take a look at this vintage Seiko Pepsi chronograph. Do you see the sub-dials, my manchild? That's my boy.

You probably didn't hear, but this is a chronograph. The button at the top is used start and stop the stopwatch. The button at the bottom will reset the stopwatch. The subdial with the miniature red hand is the designated seconds dial. That means that the big red hand, sitting with the hour and minute hands, is the chronograph hand.

But wait, there's more.

You have seen chronographs with two or three subdials, right? These subdials are designated for minutes, seconds, 1/10ths of seconds.

If you promise not to fall asleep, I can tell you the ways of the chronograph bezel.

Generally, bezels are used to mark time. Typically elapsed time or countdown for anything you can think of. The best application is for scuba diving, to mark the elapsed time of the remaining oxygen supply. When a diver wears a watch such as this, with a rotating bezel, they move the marker at the twelve position to a certain time around the dial. While the diver is underwater he can see when the hand reaches that point on the bezel he will be out of air and he needs to float up.

The bezels found on chronographs are usually tachymeters. Take a look at the Seiko Pepsi. Tachymeter is used to compute speed based on travel time over a fixed distance travelled. The tachymeter bezel or dial is a logarithmic scale that simplifies the computation of speed of an object. Use this formula:

Tachymeter Dial = 3600 / Elapsed Time In Seconds

Slide rule, rules.

the bezel is where the crystal (glass for plebs) meets the casing of the watch.
A divers bezel will likely be rotatable and feature 6 10 minute markers on it for timing dive's and as a way to know when your air runs out

A chrono bezel is usually non-rotatable and features lots of smaller numbers that represent km/h. These can be used to work the speed an object (traditionally race cars) is travelling.

e.g. If I press the chrono button and observe a car traveling for a distance of one kilometer and press it to stop once it reaches there, and say it took 25 seconds - I can deduce the car was travelling an average of about 140km/h

make a bit of sense? I'm not the patronizing guy from before btw..

Can't argue with the craftmanship, and yeah style definitely beats Rolex and other flashy shits like Breitling; but in the end it's still overpriced.

I'm not talking about style, while in my book a good blumo (sdbc003) is as good as any golden rolex, but of movement quality.
Of course there are hundreads of great medium level manufactures like Stowa (pic very related), but I wanted to emphasize that even a pretty generic brand like Seiko can make amazing movements (there are among the best and most reliable you can find actually), it means that the several thousands of dollars you spend for a brand new jlc compressor are just going to marketing and other shit like that. It's totally disconnected from the actual value of the materials and craftmanship.
Of course in my personal taste I'd rather spend a bit more than a few hundread bucks and get a good epos instead of a Seiko5

yeah they do have high tech shit for several thousands dollars.
but you're not having me believe that a master compressor movement is so much more complicated than one of a seiko5?
yet there is a 100 fold price difference, just out of pure marketing, and this my sir, is unacceptable in my book.
Why spend 8k on a brand new omega when you can get an awesome vintage russian that lived through several decades without losing more than a few seconds a day for 0.5% of the price?
pic very related
But that's just like, my opinion.

Sorry dude but you're wrong, it isn't "totally disconnected" from the value of the watch.

Rolex maybe, they churn out over a million pieces a year. JLC on the other hand is more like 10,000 pieces. Because everything is scrutinized down to the smallest detail, they hold their materials to the highest standards and the craftmanship is unrivaled. Where are all the JLC billboards and sports/movie stars rocking JLC as ambassadors? they really don't spend a fraction on PR like the Rolex's Omegas and Tag's of the world

I'm pretty certain you're a troll, so clap-clap for getting me to reply but you're talking shit right now.

Stowa are great, but they use ebauche ETA's and Valjoux - not that there's anything wrong with that but it means they don't even touch JLC. The same way Seiko doesn't even touch Stowa.

Watches, analog and digital, are autistic They are simply worthless accessories. Watches are basically jewelry for men. You might as well wear a fedora too, because no one will think that you are classy when wearing a watch. You probably think you look like James Bond with your Seiko diver, but the truth is that you don't. You actually look like a nerd that is trying to look classy when wearing a watch.

Get real. Don't wear watches. Why shouldn't you wear them? They are gaudy, unnecessary, and they aren't cool. You don't need a watch, because you can just use your cellphone. Why do you need to look at the time constantly? What are you, autistic? Stop trying to look classy, because you don't have the faintest bit of class and you aren't James Bond. Get rid of the watch and use your cellphone, like everybody else in the world.

The truth is, watches are autism bait. You should never wear a watch. They are pretty much the fedora-level accessory. Let me tell you one thing. You will look autistic when you wear a watch. Again, never wear a watch. They look tacky and are unnecessary.

I've never seen one and tbh I reckon it would probably look really tacky. Look for black or plain silver if you want to put steel bracelet

Was checking out some luxury brands in person today, and even next to Patek's and Rolex's, IWC's had way more presence. Couldn't stop staring at them.

But in Patek's defence, the jewellers didn't have any of their really nice models.

It's not wearable IMHO though, because I get negative vibes from everyone who sees it on my wrist. They either take you for a spoiled kid, or someone who is involved in organized crime. The fucking gold reflects like crazy on a hot summer day, it can literally blind you.

Been to a bunch of watch stores the past few days and so far this is the nicest I've seen (that I can afford anyway)

What do you guys think?

>>7854826
cheapnatostraps.com is good apparently, but I think the current strap would suit that watch better than any nato
