Within the £200 range your options are a bit limited but lets see what we can work with here.

Seiko - My first choice in this price range, they have excellent mechanicals (Seiko 5 series) and I think you can even cop a mechanical diver in this price range. Check out the Watchuseek forum dedicated to seiko watches.

Casio - If you're looking for a cheap digital that tells the time and nothing more, get the F-91w or some variation of it.

Citizen - Their eco-drive quartz are a solid buy. You won't have to worry about the maintenance of this watch for the next 20 years, however at the price of the charm that mechanical watches have.

Tissot - There are some nice quartz dress watches for less than £200. Good well known brand.

Off the top of my head, these are the ones I can think of. Stay away from fashion watches like Fossil or other shit.

Personally my first choice would be a Seiko Diver, or a Tissot Desire if I was picking a quartz. I would defo go for mechanical though.

Ignore anybody who says that mechanicals are better than quartz. They are basically hipster fags who believe that watches have "souls", and that the mechanical watch has more "soul" than a quartz. Your money is best spent on a quartz.

>> No.7833866

>>7833853
With a mechanical watch, you are not paying for timekeeping as much as you are paying for a piece of handcrafted art.

A G-shock will keep better time than a 100 Grand A Lange, but the lang is hand-built with years of experience and craft put into it.

Theres nothing wrong with quartz, in fact its more durable and accurate than a mechanical watch. A casio digital watch would outperform a £20k Patek Phillipe any day of the week. Mechanicals tick three or four times a second, which to some people looks cooler than once a second. They don't take batteries, but in reality the maintenance will cost you way more than batteries ever would have done. Besides, if you just hate buying batteries there's always solar/Eco-Drive or kinetic.

On the downside mechanical watches are more delicate and less accurate than quartz watches. They're tough enough on your wrist unless you're operating a jackhammer or something, but drop one onto a tile floor from 1m up and say goodbye to it. A quartz will be fine in either setting.

And there's no "art" to a Seiko 5 movement. The engineering aspect is impressive when you think that an entirely machine-assembled little movement will probably give you ten years or so of perfectly acceptable timekeeping, but they're an ugly movement. http://www.thepurists.com/watch/features/8ohms/7s26/

That said, I love Seiko 5, and have two of their divers (Monster and 007) and a Seiko 5 dress watch. I'd never take a long trip with nothing but a Seiko 5 to keep me to my itinerary though. I'll put on Swiss or quartz for that.

Nope.

And watches with one crown take moments to set the date too. You pull out to the first stop, set the day or date, pull out to the second stop, set the time.

Tianjin Seagull, the largest mechanical watch manufacturer in the world, is off brand. Yeah, okay.

I don't know if there's a subject you aren't a fucking idiot about, but you don't know your ass from your elbow when it comes to watches.
