I hear a lot of people on /fa/ say they get compliments about how they dress after taking /fa/'s advice. But I don't see how most people would really like the way you dress if you're wearing the kind of avant-garde clothes /fa/ typically favors. For those of you who browse /fa/ and get compliments on how you dress, how do you typically dress? Will buying designer clothes that aren't "normal" still make me considered "well dressed". Also post some inspo please.
pic not really related i guess

>how do you typically dress

Drop crotch pants or jeans, mostly. Some soft jersey thing and then a jacket on top.

> Will buying designer clothes that aren't "normal" still make me considered "well dressed".

Being well dressed makes you well dressed. Taste and style have nothing to do with expense and cost and everything to do with knowing yourself and understanding what works on your body and what you like.

I get about as many compliments wearing sober clothing as I do wearing trashed jeans and dresses. If someone's looking good they're looking good.

i get a lot of compliments when i wear my more loud, designers pieces. most of it time it's just stuff like "cool sweater" or "i like your pants." I was told once my a friend that i looked like someone from the matrix.

i also occasionally come across a more conservative piece that consistently gets compliments from a wide variety of people over years. right now i have a brown billy reid button up/henley that has some nice, subtle details. strangers ask me where its from. co workers always compliment it out of the blue. some pieces just really fit you well, but i'm not always the best judge of that myself. i've bought lots of pieces that i've ended up regretting later, but that's part of finding your own style.

i actually hate it when my friends ask me for fashion advice or ask where i buy my clothes because they can never find anything like it themselves because i like to hide my powerlevel

In addition to being thin, tall, handsome, and having a thick head of luscious dirty blonde hair; my Saint Laurent items oddly enough get the most compliments (usually from 18-20 yr old girls, 40 yr old moms, and 30 yr old gay men). I say oddly because there is absolutely no branding on any of it, so I think Hedi's work is obviously speaking for itself.

I'm a weeb and like to dress Japanese streetwearish. I usually pinroll my pants and wear lots of blue. I get quite a few compliments despite not owning any designer clothing. The items in my wardrobe that get the most compliments are my white chuck hightops and this navy parka/jacket/thing I got from J. Crew Factory. My more expensive items hardly get any notice.

Things I get the most compliments on aren't really out there, but just a bit different from the usual stuff worn where I live. I have gotten a few compliments on my KVA sneakers and my similar stuff, but quite a few compliments on stuff like my elongated tees or waxed denim. It seems like people not into fashion will comment more on pieces that resemble "normal" clothes with a small twist, but more "out there" or original pieces get compliments from the people who are also into fashion.

>> No.7834512

i never get compliments cause I live in a shitty area and go to a shitty uni where vans and supra shoes are considered fashionable

On a good day I can get maybe 3-4 compliments on my fits, but most days usually just 1-2. Usually from women in the mid 20s early 30s (I'm 19). I dress really preppy so people my age assume I'm some sort of rich kid when in reality I get all my clothes half off or thrift.
I basically only wear J-Crew and Brooks Brothers so my brands aren't eccentric enough for an /fa/ggot to notice me on the street unless I wear my N&F Raws, but even then most people just look at them and say "cool jeans! How do they look like that?". I've grown tired explaining to the average person what Raws are and the reaction is typically "oh... How can you not wash jeans, that's weird..."

i'd saay about half the people here (me included) dont dress in the style that /fa/ is most fond of (mainly monochrome streetwear with lots of drape). Still, when we post fits, if it's a good fit /fa/ will generally give positive feedback, even with the most despised of style, menswear. this place can be pretty pleb, but for the most part something good is still viewed as good regardless of style/genre.

Not him but because dadcore faggot. And you sound like a twat.

I get compliments occasionally. My friends usually tell me when something fits well or flatteringly, or if they really like a specific item. Unless I'm with people, I tend to have earphones in, so I don't generally get people coming up to me spouting random stuff. But it has happened. I've been tapped and asked where I got this or that, usually sneakers/boots.

I guess I dress anywhere from workwear to streetwear, depending on the outfit and season (I seem to naturally shift to streetwear during the summer, and workwear when it's cold)

I guess everybody has to find his own formula for dressing good. I say the easiest way to be considered fashionable is to wear basic fits with loud standout pieces to put accents in your style, being consistent and rocking them with confidence. Be it shoes, unusual haircuts, full-print t-shirts, or gimmicky shit like tying your shirt around your waist. Have a sense for colour. Colourwise go on muted colors or monochrome. Monochrome fits are easy to pull off and perfect for beginners, breaking an all black fit with a white tee is easy as fuck.
