Hey /fa/, /sci/ here. I need specific help on some university wear.
I'm 183 cm, 67 kg. I'm also quite a poorfag so my closet currently has 3 tshirts, a hoodie, a pair of nice black jeans (my size and length, but not skin tight, just classical jeans, should I get them tailored?) and very light dark beige cargo (they have lots of pockets?) pants that I wear in summer time (gets way too hot for jeans over here). I want to replace the tshirts with something like pic related. I want long sleeved ones with that button thing for rolling the sleeves up (is there a name for that?) so I can wear them both in summer and winter. Is that a good idea? What colours should I go for?
I have limited funds. Should I go for 3-4 lower quality shirts, so I can cycle them and not look like I have only 2 shirts, or should I go for quality, but buy only 2? I once had the opportunity to wear an expensive silk shirt and it was very comfortable, but I doubt I could afford more than one of those.
As for shoes, I've been wearing worn up military boots, but I'll invest in Converse All Stars (above ankles). Color suggestions? Something that would go with shirts would be nice.

Overall I don't want to look like an obvious poorfag. I'm not from USA if that is of any relevance. I'll obviously try to go for the best fit possible. Can you tailor these?

get a job, work for a few weeks and pay for good quality stuff on sale.

a site like asos has great stuff for cheap. just keep a look out for bargains.

you can get designer for cheap if you look long enough. buy designer on sale once in a while or cheap regularly.

I had some time off uni, I'm a busy law student.

worked for a week, brought a pair of aldo boots, caterpillar suede workboots, 2 shirts, 2 (designer) trousers. was about 100 (pounds) for everything (it was all half price or less but great quality stuff)

ps it's way easier to look better in tees if you don't have that much experience with dressing well
dont replace your tees with long sleeve shirts
also if you are overweight you should lose weight cause that will make you look better :)

I have an opportunity to buy some decent clothes. Formal wear is not socially appropriate yet (I'm not a fedora wearing neckbeard) as I am too young, but I want to be taken more seriously than a high schooler with a graphic tee. I don't think there is a lot of difference between a black tshirt, a branded tshirt and a black tshirt with a logo. "Congruent with my personality" is perhaps a bad expression; I want to look decent, I want my clothes to serve a practical purpose and I want to feel comfortable wearing them (remember, clothes are kinda big investment to me, I don't want to make a bad one). Tshirts aren't a big improvement over what I already have, formal shirts will make me look totally out of place.

Any other suggestions?

You could't be more wrong man. I would be guessing right now that your biggest problems and roadblocks to looking "cool" will be the way your jeans fit and your footwear choice. Getting some skinny jeans and nice sneakers will make a far better impact than getting shirts like in your OP pic. That shirt isn't cool. The problem is that right now you don't have an understanding of what cool is, or how to achieve it. You need to spend time lurking internet fashion communities.

get a lite blue and white ocbd(thats a shirt with buttons on the bottom of the collar made out of oxford cloth), plain black, grey and white tees (youre just wrong, sorry), black and indigo skinny jeans and some cool nikes/new balances

easiest way is to wear good fitting tees and jeans/chinos whatever

you don't want to buy oxfords because you don't feel comfortable in them. Everyone wears button ups, they are nothing special. depends on the fabric if they are formal or casual though

You need to learn more about clothing in general before buying all this shit. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but it seems like you pretty much all of a sudden decided that you wanted to dress well but you don't know a thing about dressing well. Again, I don't mean to be so harsh, that's just what it sounds like.

This is boring advice, but if you just want to look generally more mature, buy some simple, solid colored t-shirts, a couple OCBDs, maybe a flannel, a pair of chinos and a pair of jeans. Most importantly, make sure that everything fits you well. Since you're a beginner, just look at stores like H&M and Uniqlo. If this doesn't fit your "style," what is your style?

>> No.7813042

OP you seem to have this misguided idea that wearing a button-up will make you look more fashionable than wearing a t-shirt, but it's just about ~how~ you wear these things.

I'll definitely get a pair of dark fitting jeans. Should I go with dark blue or black?
To clarify, I'm not trying to look cool. I'm not even trying to look very fashionable, just somewhat better than I look now.

Shitty ROI. That's why I'm asking you guys instead of dedicating months to explore complex world of fashion.

Why don't you want to look cool? Go for black. Black skinny jeans are an extremely versatile item. They are also a good lens that the rest of your outfit will be viewed through; think about how a white tee looks with black skinny jeans compared with light blue straight-leg dad jeans?

but you also said you don't see the big difference between graphic and blank tees.

we can tell you what to buy, but the thing is if you're not comfortable with wearing them you will never wear them. Also almost everyone starts to build their wardrobe by mimicking something that they think that looks good, but after a while they find their own style.

>tfw liked dadcore
>copped a bit dadcore stuff<
>realize i look too young for this
>gradually create my own preferences that I know look good on me

That's why you need to start with the basic stuff, don't spend too much money at the beginning, which you won't because you're poor but still

OP I think you need to manage expectations and reality.

As you said yourself, you are not well dressed. To become well dressed, you need to it gradually, let it naturally become a mindset of yours. The best way to do this is to start with the basics, t shirts, nice fitting denim/chinos and a good pair of shoes.

If you don't even dress like this right now and feel uncomfortable wearing them, then it is likely that wearing button up shirts will look unpleasing, even more so then what you are currently dressing in right now.

If you are reluctant, then go to mfa. They will suggest clarks desert boots and old navy button ups.

Only wear shirts that are good, just because they have buttons, does not mean they are a step up from t shirts.

>> No.7817104

>>7813000
Buy nice, dark-tone oxfords from Uniqlo if you really want to get into dress shirts. Preferably solid colors, though some inoffensive patterns could work. Look into some lighter-material denim for summer wear, and invest well in some decent shoes. You'll want street shoes like Nike Flyknits, and varying boots. You'll have to decide what boots you'd like to go with, so I recommend camping out in WAYWT/Fuccboi threads, as well as asking healthy questions about certain pieces in inspo threads.

Basically, you'll want to spend some time here before you really want to drop any heavy cash on a new wardrobe. For God's sake, though; read the sticky.
