I just see how much people dislike the fedora.

Can somebody tell me why?

>> No.7812518

It has been explained countless times, and it should be understood intuitively very quickly.

negative associations

it's not that they're ugly necessarily, but they have come to symbolize a misguided yearning for the 1920s in western culture, especially among people who don't know anything about the period but just want to feel better than their peers, whom they hate because they don't have the necessary social skills to deal with them. "class vs swag" is central to why a lot of people care about 'class'; it's a way of reacting to hip-hop culture in general, which they don't understand, but their socially adept peers do.

the typical fedora wearer doesn't dress well, is socially awkward, and thinks they were born "in the wrong generation". Sometimes they also think men don't have enough rights or have become too marginalized, usually because they feel powerless against women (owing to their lack of social skills or poor looks/hygiene) -- this translates into a wish to return to a society where men had more power over women.

it's a sick mentality, but it's comforting for men who feel hopelessly lost in modern society but don't have the clarity of vision to notice two things: that a fedora will going to make them look even more hopeless and emasculated, and that the time period they yearn for was dominated by the charismatic and good-looking as much as today's society is, and wouldn't have been a nice time for them to live in, either.

even when done on successful/charismatic people, it conjures up another undesirable association, for me: the "artiste" poseur.

that a fedora will make them [...] *

I had written "is going to" and meant to change that to "will" but I fucked up

Managed to get quite a few broad generalizations in, didn't you? Good to see your internet cold reader degree paying off, isn't it? ror

for the sake of explaining why there are widely-recognized negative associations with the fedora, generalizations have to suffice...
