The GS Snowflake has a textured dial that made to resemble the windswept snow of the Nagano Prefecture. As you know, Nagano is where they make the high end movements found in the Grand Seiko collection. The GS Snowflake also has a power reserve indicator on the dial, it is the quarter circle looking thing on the dial. Very nifty.

The GS Hi-Beat has a different movement, and a non-textured dial, but it is still a very worthy watch.

I am basically saying that the GS Snowflake and the GS Hi-Beat are completely different.

Basically, yea, if you have a top tier diver that is worth its salt, then wear it however the fuck you want, you've got the scratch so what else matters. That being said, if you've got the money for a top diver, you've got money for a top dress watch, and why not do it right.

But yea, don't wear an Invicta for dress, however it's fine for banging about and still looking good.

Making a statement doesn't necessarily mean standing out. I'm aware that that might be hypocritical since I'm considering buying a Rolex, but just having a nice watch that's a classic is important to me.

Dude, of course those are awesome

>>7736829
Okay, fair and of course I don't expect you to get a watch-nerd watch, unless you're a watch nerd. That being said, Submariners are fucking boring, every single manufacturer out there makes something that knocks off that styling, and to be frank, unless you're shouting from the hills IM WEARING A ROLEX people are just going to assume you're rocking a freaking invicta.

You can spend your watch dollars as you will, and if a submariner is your dream watch then why are you even asking the question? At the end of the day, if you want to make a statement, a submariner makes the statement of "I just bought this cause it seemed like the watch everyone else has bought". That is why Rolex is considered babbies first decent watch, because the brand saturation has reached the point where if you say "fancy watch" people immediately think Rolex, even people who couldn't name another watch manufacturer.

As to the quality to cost ratio of Rolex, I suggest you start trolling around watchuseek and other forums. To be frank the current consensus is that the lower tier Rolex watches are, at this point, surpassed by watches 1/3 as costly in quality, but because it says ROLEX, they are gonna always make money.

Such as? Since I want a sports watch, I don't have many choices. I mean the Royal Oak (normal one, not the Offshore crap) is nice, but I'd have to save up like two months for the model I like (base model fortunately but still), and saving up for a watch seems silly to me.

I'm sure other, cheaper watches than Rolex are "better", but if I want a classic, what else can I possibly get?

Is around 10k your budget? Because there are at least a few hundred excellent watches from classic makers in that budget. I mean, how could you even ask "what else can I possibly get?", you literally are in the sweet spot for nearly every catalog maker entry-level watch.

No, it's not the only option, but it's the most fitting one given your criteria. I don't find their brand recognition to be a downside like the other anon that is posting, though.

To be fair I prefer Omega's styling more, they're just such handsome watches. But if you read the Omega forums in one of the many Omega vs Rolex threads, you will see that even Omega owners concede that Rolex beats Omega in their movements, in their service, and in their brand recognition.

The only thing I don't like about the sub is that the part where the bezel attaches to the band is so rectangular. On the seamaster it's angled in and smaller in width. Other than that I think the sub is handsome as fuck.

The regular seamaster diver is what they have that competes with the subm in features. They have one called a planet ocean which has upgraded movement and is more expensive, but it's also bigger than the subm and a chrono so it's not really a direct competitor IMO. I also don't think it looks as good as the regular seamaster.

If the budget is 10K grab an IWC or Submariner but the latter hold their second hand value well so you might as well get used and save yourself the depreciation.

One of my many issues with Tag.

I love the 1887... till i realised it's an IWC Portuguese Chronograph copy... and the movement issue was a classic fuck up.

Tags have always been about the marketing and trying to market themselves as a real watch company yet are incapable of developing their own movement...

I love this line

>>“The origin of the patent was not in the original press release we sent out on the 1887, so the first thing we did on Monday was to mention that the intellectual property was from Seiko Instruments (SII), which is the engineering company under the Seiko umbrella,”

So basically you lied about the movement being 100% in house tried to use marketing speak to claw back credibility lol

Here's a bit of the original press release

>Back in January 2006, we started looking at every mechanical chronograph on the market, and none made the grade in terms of our criteria — high-volume production, unbeatable reliability, easy maintenance and reasonable manufacturing cost. So we set out to make our own, and three years later came up with a beauty.

>The turnaround time for a new movement — from first draft to final product — is between 3 and 5 years. The Calibre 1887 is at the front end of the timeframe. But we didn’t rush anything, we took our time, we didn’t make any compromises. When it was completely ready, we launched. As always, the number one priority was to produce the best possible product.
Reading it makes me cringe.

But speaking of IWC

on a marketing image means that the movement was made from a supplier that makes them inhouse

I think that shows you can't underestimate the market and pull wool over their eyes, cause that shit will back fire.

To wind it back a bit tags are fine, but watch freaks dismiss them with a wave of the hand. Very few collectors I've seen on some of the bigger forums take them seriously.

IWC's Pilot watches are the shit. I kinda wish I got a big pilot now instead of the Portuguese Auto.
