Does anyone know how to make a t-shirt like this? I just lost the bidding on ebay and I am mad.

Also DIY general.

make some fakes in los angeles, wait 10 years, start up your own label, eventually design something similar, produce copies through a factory, keep one to wear yourself!

but seriously you are not going to diy that just wait for another auction

i bought one exactly like that brand new for 100$

>> No.7678454

cop some unstable cotton jersey

leave yo hems raw

but in terms of actually constructing the shirt, i don't know shit

where from? i didn't want to pay more than $100for it because it was old and already kind of worn out.

yo you can diy the distressed look this guy did it.

Thinking about getting into diy, and going all out with some #nxtlvl shit. I'm talking chain mail, woodblock prints, leather work, bullion embroidery, etc. Any ideas what I should start with?

>> No.7679406

>>7679382
I was also thinking about getting into diy, I was going to start with deconstructing an old t shirt I had then making a pattern from it, then sewing it back up. If that went well I was going to cut and sew another shirt made out of some cheap cotton and if that went well too I was going sew a shirt made of of silk rayon.

Good luck man, maybe find some like minded individuals in each hobby to get together with a couple hours a week to create with so you dont lose motivation/go insane from lack of human contact.

lol rick shirts are easy as shit to diy, I've made tons in the general design. Thing is he gets his materials specifically commissioned (hence the unstable cotton >>7678454 which is hard as shit to come by) which contributes to the cost.

Other than that it's a simple tee design, obviously modified for fit but beside sthe raw edges it's still overlocked/doubled neck line, etc.

Maybe I should flog my shit to fuccbois. Only thing is I used shit fabric from Jomars.

>> No.7680129

rick's tshirts are a lot more sophisticated than material selection and a spine seam, m8.

I've been sewing for the past year. You're going to have to drop at least $300 on a really good machine (I have a nice machine, but not like an industrial Juki), perfect your sewing skills, master hand stitching, etc. It's going to take a while.

re: op

look up how to shred knits

re: making your own rick owens

it is simple, in the case of his basic cut & sew stuff it's all in the fabric, which is a really nice ribbed viscose from italy. that's entirely where the cost comes from. most of his jersey stuff isn't even finished. it's just serged together with a collarette. it's not complicated at all. that's the genius of it. the draped stuff gets much more complicated but the construction itself is still quite simple. i would say his cut & sew work is probably some of the simplest out there. there's nothing wrong with that, he's been ripped off by almost everyone as a result. the original idea itself was genius, everyone does that same style of top now. but in regards to actually making them, they are as simple as it gets.

>> No.7680394

>>7680376
The *construction* is dead simple and that's kind of the point because he needs to bank roll off of them (although working with that material is a lot more difficult than you're implying) but the underlying design work is actually very, very sophisticated. moving your side seams to the spine isn't going to achieve the same result.

>> No.7680452

>>7680268
then confirmed for not knowing shit about clothing construction

besides the material, cut, and sometimes raw edges nothing distinguishes the construction of a rick tee to a hanes tee

He's right. When the material, cut, and hem types are all different, the shirts are obviously not similar at all. To say so would be fucking idiotic.

>> No.7680528

>>7680394

>but the underlying design work is actually very, very sophisticated

Really son? Lets not get ahead of ourselves. It's cut & sew. The style with the scalloped hems and skinny elongated sleeves is really solid but sophisticated is one of the last words I would use to describe it. Calling it such is kind of offensive to pattern making work that's actually sophisticated.

>> No.7680542

>>7680511
No, I'm a design student who studied t shirting in depth because it's how labels make their money and when it comes time for me to do a tshirt, I want to do it right.

Rick cribbed dress making techniques in creating his tshirt, it's not Hanes, it's Gres.

>>7680528
What scalloped hems? Anyway, Rick's magic is all in the shoulders, and in the way that he changes the shoulder from drop to set and shaped the arm holes and sleeve caps. It's brilliant and it's as sophisticated as you can make a tshirt before you overwork it.

>> No.7680565

>>7679623
Its hard to make tees because placing the sleeve is a fucking nightmare but making tanktops is a reasonable diy

>> No.7680722

>>7680542

>>7680532
to address both of you,
1. a raw hem is actually simpler to make. There's no fold over and seam. It's less work.
2. Fit has little to do with the construction method. The point is not that they look different but making them is not any more difficult than making a traditional tee. Twist the seams, start including drape, then yeah that takes time but ricks simple, form fitting side seam overlock tees are produced in the same way as a standard tee. It's all about the possibility.
3. Material can be more finnicky to work with but no diy kid is getting viscose commissioned

>> No.7680753

>>7680722
>2. Fit has little to do with the construction method.

the method sure but no one whos diying a rick shirt has enough money to buy one let alone cut it up and trace it into a pattern. how are they going to get the desired fit? by eye? cutting up a hanes tee? lol

>> No.7680764

>>7680722
Actually, fit is rooted in construction, particularly seam dominance, and Rick's technique emphasizes a different set of seams than Hanes.

>> No.7680779

The method, sure, but no one whos "do it yourself"ing a Rick Owens T-shirt has enough money to buy one, let alone cut it up and trace it into a pattern. How are they going to get the esired fit? By eye? Cutting up a Hanes tee? Laugh out loud.
