I really don't know what to feel about blue leather; this goes for all things, including shoes etc.

On the one hand I find it intriguing; and figure "why not?" especially with say, a wallet, which isn't something that's worn and seen constantly, but only glimpsed intermittently.

On the other hand it's just too reminiscent of something tacky, like all those women's blue leather/pleather accouterments that exist.

>> No.7611359

>>7611352

Exactly. I do find it appealing, but someway out of place.

I'm not sure if I should get it.

I just watched their little dancing vid thing with that wallet in the OP and yeah, that would start to piss me off (folding the bills more than once).

I carry around a little leather card holder that's of this
>>7611238
style and it's okay.

The cards go in the outside card flaps (mine has 2 per side) and the deep, main pocket holds a wad of bills folded in half. Mine holder isn't tall enough, so the bills stick out the top. Meh, got it on clearance at an outlet, and it serves the purpose.
When I need cash, I pull out the entire wad, unfold, choose what I need, re-fold, replace.

Not ideal, but one less fold is better.

That OP wallet would be fine if you really only use cash very sparingly, and need like one or two bills only for emergencies. It's for cards.

>> No.7611395

>>7611337
yeah, but you're holding the wallet at the same time that you're folding and unfolding the bills. it's just kind of a clumsy process. and it doesn't hold a lot of cash. i like to be able to have a few singles as well as a few tens or twenties.

I'm just using a simple bi fold now

I've owned a lot of wallets/methods of carrying money over the years. Here are some of mine and my experiences with each type:
Pictured here are some that have not been lost due to carelessness or misplacement and are either in current use, recently decommissioned, or recently acquired.
With the exception of the little card holder I've described >>7611383, and the pen case, everything else has been, IIRC, a Christmas gift from family.

I flit back and forth between a few countries over the year. This new year I'll be alternating between a humid, shitty 3rd worlder and Australia (which has its own problems, but let's not get into that).

One requires lots of cash, invariably soiled, and lots of coins, and the other, being somewhat more organised, requires just one or two cards, a bill or two, and perhaps some coins for daily use.

Coat wallets: The big red thing is a travel wallet made of some kind of lizard (it's too delicate IMO), in which resides travel papers and my passports. When travelling it also carries cash in a couple of currencies - no coins - (not good travelling practice to keep all one's shit in one place but whatever - I guard that thing like my life depends on it, because, well, it sorta does). Not practical for everyday usage - lots of women carry big ole wallets like this though, they carry a purse, so it's okay. If you're a murse man you can get away with larger shit. It's from Penhaligons. I didn't know that they did leather goods but there you go. Don't buy anything lizard skin.

The next thing is a pencase/wallet branded Conway Stewart (they OEM it from someone else though). Holds 3-5 pens and a long notepad I stick in one of the card slots. Notes go in the fold under the pens and card slots. Big, thick, and I only used it as a wallet as a student. If you're carrying a lot of stationery for some reason, these kinds of pencase/wallets aren't so bad if you carry it in a bag (it's too fat for a coat pocket, too much external bulge).

>> No.7611799

>>7611782
The two black things are your standard coat wallet that I sport in those colder climes that require a coat all the time: the first one along is a replacement for the next one, that I've had for the past 14 years or so and used the shit out of. Got it this christmas (some local brand). The beat one is Bally, and has held up pretty well I suppose. The new one has a zippered pocket on the inside, that I suppose one could put coins in but it would create an unsightly bulge in something that should remain slim and should effortlessly slip into an inner coat pocket. You can fit a lot of stuff in these things (folded papers, receipts, notes et. al.) and you'll have to resist that temptation. Keeps new bills nice and crisp though, which I like.

The next one is a Montblanc bifold/trifold. This, unlike the others, actually has a coin compartment - so this one gets really quite fat, and tends to bulge noticeably from a pants pocket. Best carried in a bag. I don't really like it all that much (and not just because it's MB; I will grudgingly admit that their leather goods are pretty good and hold up quite well), but it's the tallest and can most currencies (I wish there was just a world standard size ffs). One of a long line of bifold types I've had (the only one I've not lost). If I were in the market for a new wallet, this class being not so big/long that it's a coat wallet, and not small like a card holder/money clip, would be skipped over. They're that allrounder type that you probably don't need to have, and are probably carrying too much in anyhow.

The last is the little card holder that is also a new acquisition. I've never carried one of thse before but I really am getting used to it. Before I've always had either a coat/jacket or a bag/case of some sort with me, and in an effort to cut this excess crap from my daily usage I picked up the first one I saw that was cheap and usable.

>> No.7611824

>>7611799
These little things make you see how much of all that crap- all those fucking receipts and other wallet litter - is just unnecessary. Cards for some club or discount/rewards program you never/seldom use? Can't fit in in! Delightful!
I've never had a straight money clip that I liked; they always felt too insecure for me. Perhaps these hybird moneyclip/holder things are better, and I may look into that when I retire (or tire of) this brown one. Like I said before the case sticks out, and you have to squeeze the edges of the thing to get the wad of bills back in. Not as effortless as I'd like, but all the card holders of this generic styling are like that.

I heartily recommend to anyone that's carrying a chunky bifold to really look at what you put in there, and take out all that excess shit you never use or is just plain rubbish. Get a small wallet/card holder thingy that suits your circumstances - it will force you to not take anything you dont' actually need or use with you. (a wip for me; I've already crammed some instant aspirin into my little card holder but I OD on that shit so I guess I've gotta compromise somewhere). Try it out, buy it and be done with it.

Coins go in a coin pouch in trousers and jeans; they make wallets too chunky and heavy. Done.

So, stay away from lizard. Calf/cow/bull - bovine, is fine and standard. Elephant (if you can actually find it anymore) is also pretty hardy. Stingray is too effeminate but feels awesome in the hand. I am interested in obtaining something made out of shell cordovan, and, as I understand it, such a wallet would be the longest lasting but they can be quite pricey.
If I can find a suitable shell card wallet then this brown one will be retired early.

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback.

Cutting the card pockets at an angle is actually a pretty good idea and would save me a bit of trouble.

The lacing on the sides is a bit big and is spaced a bit too far apart, working on sourcing some thinner kangaroo lace and doing the whole thing tighter.

The stitching on the card pockets is a bit coarse, but it's done for strength as the card pockets are important to the design and the cards give the wallet body and stiffness.

The fleur is one of the styles of buttons i have, got iron cross and celtic knot ones too which look more manly, there's lots of stuff out there but that's what i had lying around when i made the first wallet.

Back to the drawing board!

Have a picture of a cuff i recently repaired and a one i made for myself because i liked the design; my lacing is much better on this one.. Sorry for the shit pic quality!

It's a warranty that it will hold up for 100 years of regular use, not accidental damage. This is the same for nearly any company's products and why they charge extra for accident coverage.
I'm not defending their business practices or anything but is fairly straightforward for what it is. $50 is about the same as any other decent wallet.

Probably the same thing, because that sort of issue is clearly covered in the second clause.

>no they charge you 700X what the standard MSRP is so you utilize the warranty
Why would they charge more to offset the cost of warranty replacements when based on your argument they never honor their warranty?
>id rather do business with a heritage brand that covers anything under any circumstance
And you're expecting these products to be the same or cheaper than Saddleback with such a warranty, even when they'd be the ones losing money on "accidents" constantly?

Now it's quite obvious Saddleback has an inflated ego and all the fluff they add to their text is gross, along with whatever shilling I heard about, but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to go off of that their products hold up, and it's not like leather itself is a material that wears out. Most defects and poor workmanship would likely be evident immediately with good quality control which means that most customers won't have an issue.
>literally means nothing
No, it literally means that it's assured to hold up as initially advertised, except instances of misuse. It is not hard to understand. It is not misleading. It is clear as day.
>"Saddleback Leather products are made to last a lifetime, but the warranty does not cover misuse or abuse..."
