I'd recommend against them, I've run in them and was not impressed. Stupid levels of support that baby your knees and lead to overpronation and shinsplints, poor grip on trails (which might not be an issue depending on where you run), and relatively heavy (which isn't a deal-breaker, but will fuck you over if you've already got bad form). Anyway, those are the reasons I'd say no, but except for the padding and ankle structure issues, there's nothing majorly wrong with them. I'll split this into two parts because I see (>>760887) you're getting antsy and might buy.

Right, So advice on the internet is hardly reliable and often contradictory. If it helps you make your decision I'll provide some background information on myself and my perspectives. In high school I used to be a pretty serious runner. Cross country captain, section champion, county champion, all the way up to states. In college I turned down a D1 track offer and took a year off. After that I taught myself to run with a forefoot strike and took up longer races, most notably the Catskill Mtn 100k relay. Over my career I've seriously used around ten shoe models and run in most everything the market has to offer. For the last 2 years I've actually been running in martial arts shoes, which are fantastic, but probably not for you (assuming you're not a forefoot striker, let me know if I'm wrong). Anyway I feel pretty qualified to comment on the merits of various shoes for running (I'll leave the /fa/ part to you). If you have any specific questions on shoes ask away. If you want my recomendation, look into New Balance's Minimus LIne for Urban use or Merrel trail gloves (or similar) for rural

Total weight of a shoe isn't super important, don't worry about that. Cushioning and stiff support are a contentious topic in the running community. If you have shoes with more support then your impacts are softer and running feels a little nicer, so you might say that yeah, they're good for beginners. But there's a big problem with that. Our body is designed to withstand impact naturally. if your body thinks its landing on a soft surface then it doesn't tense your arches and achilles properly; impact that would normally be absorbed in your tendons and leg muscles goes right to your knees. In sum, you end up with knee pain for hours after you run instead of sore feet while you run. So no, its not a good thing for a beginner, or any, runner. That's barring the whole issue with giant heels leading to overpronation. If you don't run a lot you should try to start running with a forefoot strike, which would mean that you'd land on the ball of your foot and roll back to your heel instead of vica versa. The shoes I recommended could accommodate that transition
>>7609029
This is well said. You don't buy a horse if you want fresh milk, and you shouldn't buy your running shoes at the the behest of a fashion forum. apples and oranges (or, with respect to parent post, bananas)_.

>> No.7609171

>>7609101
This is a total aside, but it's really cool and I'll sage so I don't feel guilty.
>Our body is designed to withstand impact naturally
So I threw this out there and didn't really support it. That idea, is actually also quite contentious. I'm making this claim based on a theory of evolution and Bipedalism that is relatively new and still not entirely accepted. So we come from these furry things in Africa right? and those furry things (or at least their moochy no good grand kids) are still around. Furthermore, we're different from them! I mean yeah, we're less furry and more intelligent (Seig H. not withstanding) but we also walk on two legs instead of four limbs. Why is that? how and why did Bipedalism evolve? The answer is to run. Humans are able to run the longest distances of any animal on the planet. Bipedalism is an evolutionary adaption to enable that. Running was so important because it enabled these proto-humans to catch food. We evolved to run down animals until they collapsed from exhaustion. look up persistence hunting, really neat stuff! There's lots of stuffy scientific articles on this but by far the best work on the topic is done by Scott carrier. He's a radio reporter who spent his youth getting high and running after antelope in the midwest. He makes the idea far more compelling and exciting then I am able.
