depends on the place.
since tattoo parlors generally charge by space, it'll probably run you quite a bit.

i think ive said in another thread that geometric shapes and minimal tattoos were the hipster equivalent of tribal/barbed wire, etc. blackwork definitely as well.

i understand the objections to the term 'hipster' but you know what i mean when i say it.

how do solid tattoos work? filling in a space doesn't seem as easy with a tattoo gun as a crayon

>> No.7597630

>>7597603
tattoo artists charge by the hour, not by the square inch you goober. a solid tattooer will run you about $150-$200/hr.
black work maybe more, because it's actually a pretty hard thing to make look good once healed.

it's essentially the same process just using more of it. you have to make sure you make deep, thorough passes through the area and bury the pigment in the subdermis.

most blackwork tattoos take a few sittings to fully cover; mostly because once you use so much pigment and you're constantly wiping it away, it stars to get difficult to see what's actually black and what's just discolored from irritation and excess ink.

slow, small circular passes

Just so you know dude, black rings like this were traditionally street tattoos used to cover up heroin injection sites

you use a shader, which is just a bunch of needles (i think at least 5 or 6) rather than 1, which is used for line work. More needles allow you to pack in more color easier, it's actually not too hard to do. Doing solid tattoos like black however are difficult as previously stated, simply because you're trying to shade so much and the skin will only absorb so much at one time. I have a solid black tattoo that I need to get touched up, just because part of it is faded from trying to get so much black shoved in it.
