Well for example, a buddy of mine subsequently got very close with the Giulianis, working events for them. Also worked events for Christie's. And now that he's done modeling (had a run in with melanoma) is going to work at Hugo Boss as the fashion equivalent of a pharmaceutical rep.

All because he was a model.

It's only as vapid as you make it, the models I know are pretty cool guys in which I have great conversations with and a great time. Though it can go the other way too. It's stressful in a strange psychological way, but altogether not awful.
