I've never had any comments like that on my attire at my uni. It's either positive or they don't say anything. Heck, I've even had conversations about fashion with guys there.

It's Durham so there are a fair few preppy style (rah rah rah) people there but there are a decent number of people in the type of clothing /fa/ seems to like at the moment. I even know a guy with GATs, I think they're real german ones instead of the MMMs though.

It's not about everyone being celebrities, it's about the fact that LA is a major international city and thus various fashions and styles seep into the populace. On any given day you can see tons of people dressing like hipsters, preps, in streetwear, in menswear, etc. That's a lot different from the rest of the country, which is clad in camo or an oversized uni hoodie 99% of the time.
