acceptable by who? that will dictate your answer. it mostly unacceptable for anyone who uses reddit, 4chan, etc., because of all the stigma, but there are definitely individuals and non-internet-savvy social strata out there that have none of this stigma about it.

for myself its just far easier to say no universally and not try to figure it out

To a certain point yeah. If you have the face and fits like Frank Sinatra then you can pull it off.

To this date, the whole fucking menswear (and I mean proper menswear which implies suits) is being looked down upon by you fuccbois. And it's only because of this internet sport you adore oh so much, where the main goal is to find a kid with autism or aspergers in a suit OR a fedora. Either thing works.

So because of your stupid fingerpointing, I have yet to come across SOMEONE who appreciates a fucking suit. It does NOT imply that a completely normal lad in his 20's with a normal sexlife, healthy hobbies, and no interest in videogames or internet me-mes is a "LE CLASSY GENTLEMAN *TIPS FEDORA*

To be honest, I wear suits aswell because it's a uniform and still /fa/ but only narrowminded fuccbois like you on this board would point fingers and call me beta, neckbeard, autist or what not

Yet people on the streets, and everyone else in my social network compliments me on what I wear on the regular. I still don't wear a fucking fedora, I still get pussy from time to time. I don't give a shit about anime, videogames, movies or any virtual entertainment, and I have no disorders what so ever.

Come at me

I disagree. What I meant with suit didn't imply formal dress pants, waistcoat, cufflinks and a tie. An open blazer/jeans/oxford shirt/chelsea boots goes under the category of suit and it's perfectly casual, yet it seems that the internet generation of young lads calls me out on it.

Menswear has been around for centuries and there's a reason why you still see men wearing it. It doesn't have to be a three piece suit, and this sport I mentioned, seems to be reserved for the majority of this board and that is fuccbois.

There's no room for people like me

>> No.7562928

>>7562914
but you are doing exactly what the fedoras do
prescribing to antiquated and anachronistic tropes that show your complete failings at comprehending social etiquette
young people wearing suits just look like children in their fathers' clothes and if you also add the pathetic nostalgia argument into it you become nothing more than a person wearing a costume, comparable to a ren fair reenactor or a steampunk enthusiast and you deserve all your mockery

>> No.7562950

>>7562928
Wearing a fedora, and convince youself to be a classy gentleman whilst being nothing more than a spawn of the internet generation IS failure of following social etiquette.

THAT is what fedoras do. Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking the fedora side, because I personally find the hat itself useless and a bit excessive.

I think you're talking about teens, being dadcore. I'm 22 myself and I probably have more life experience than the average 18 year old neckbearded type you're talking about.

And of course, not everyone is a James Bond, looking good in suits and stuff but if it wasn't because of the lowered standard, the internet, and such as big market for streetwear then people would have a whole different view on suits. Whether it was casual or formal - Doesn't matter.

>> No.7562966

>>7562950
wrong, because the concept of a suit as everyday wear is already antiquated and is an uniform exclusively associated with a distinct class
wearing suits casually is horrible bourgeois pretension especially if you are a fucking 22-year-old with no actual reason to be wearing stuff like that
its like broke as shit high school kids saving up their allowance to buy a pair of Geos and wear them with Walmart jeans, its just misappropriation and pretension. this is the fundamental core of fuccboiism and the antithesis to a fashionable lifestyle. the internet's backlash to fedoras doesn't even change the fact that "menswear" on young people is fundamentally fallacious

I'm just saying how sad - if not, silly - it is to see how menswear on this board seems to vaporize more and more by the minute. This board is clearly ruled by contemporal street inspired wear.

Suits still has a place in high end fashion to this date. The blazer/jeans/shirt combination has proofed to be extremely versatile through decades. All for a good reason.

It's socially acceptable and it shows self awareness, effort and respect, in the right situation. And that could be a casual event aswell.

You're highlighting your prejudices towards suits by saying that dandyism is still around which is not true. There's a huge demand for blazers, shirts and jeans for a reason, and the market followed up by making it easily accessible. It doesn't have to cost a million, and you don't have to play golf.

You can't deny the fact that it is a big sport on 4chan to make these beta/cringe threads. You see them every day.

If you wear a suit to Walmart to buy your MLP toys you look like euphoric. Now if you throw on a well tailored three piece suit and go to say the opera or a play or a business meeting its all fine.

I think even a suit jacket or a nice blazer is a better fit fora casual spring and Summer look, but as far as that goes it is just a tad out dated.

You could own the nicest suit in the world made out of the best silks and finest cotton in the galaxy, if your fit is poor and badly tailored I will mock you.

You see a lot of cheap suits posted in /MFA threads and big boxy 5 button blazers and suit jackets. It has nothing to do with /fa/ hating suits, it has everything with /fa/ hating people who just don't get clothing and fashion.

Check inspo threads, you see a whole lot of nice suits.

Since this is the direction this thread has taken, I need some fast advice on formal wear. Fuccboi here, trying my damndest to work with what I have til I can start making educated purchases on my own.

Is it considered formal enough to wear a V neck sweater over button up and tie? I'm going to sort of debriefing for the sales job I'm working in now, but I have to bike and it's cold as balls out.

Otherwise I have to wear these ugly blue thermals underneath it, which will undoubtedly show through the white fabric and that's pretty unacceptable.

Or just man up and bike without either?

>> No.7563184

>>7563156
If its a nice sweater I don't see why not if the colouring is fine with the rest of your outfit. If of is cold or wet wear a nice jacket or parka, carhart, northface, or Columbia. Those all should be nice looking and light while still being very warm.
Also if its raining or too cold, take a cab you'll look more professional when you're not a drowned rat.

clothing is all context. people who are 'well-dressed' are people who understand social situations well and can dress to accompany them. if you work for some random blog, don't wear a suit to work - if you work on wall street, you're probably required to and will need to put attention into that area. #menswear isn't inherently bad at all - its main problem is just that its followers are all bloggers who wear bespoke italian suits and pay attention to 'dress charts' from 1902. it's out of context and will make you look like an idiot to the outside world

>> No.7563207

I'm generally of the mindset that suits should be saved for an occasion that requires one or they will lose their power of impression. That being said, my good friend makes hella money and wears nicely tailored suits all the time. I mean he feels really awkward and 'naked' without a suit on. At this point, I can't imagine him without a suit and he looks good in one, so I think you can pull off the daily suit look if you have the money and rock it well.

It's gray with some black and white stripes along the bordering, but it's not great. The brand is Merona and it's a size up from me, though not too baggy. The issue with that though is that the neck is rather wide for the collar of the button up.

Colors aren't so much of what I'm worried about, but the sweater is grey, my button up is white, and the tie, slacks, laceups, and socks are pretty much the same shade of black.

And I love the look of rolled sleeves ever since I worked as a server, but I can't seem to manage to keep it where I need it on the arm because of its size. I'd have to use safety pins which I currently have none at my disposal.

I absolutely agree.

I guess you all deserve to know my situation.
I'm a prof. Mixologist, working in a five star establishment in central London. It is required to wear an ironed shirt and a bowtie.

I make enough money to wear bespoke, and proper fitting suits to complement the shirt, and my everyday wear.
