What do you guys wear to protect you from the rain?

Feeling to cop some waterproof outerwear but there's so much out there and I dunno what's good and what isn't.

Might get a Patagonia Torrentshell but I'd love to hear what you guys would recommend.

Cheers

Functional clothing is almost never effay. Just get something in a color you like and that fits reasonably well. If you can work it in to some other fits in your wardrobe, even better but not necessary.

Me and my pals tend to wear small name brand mountain jackets quite often. This might not work unless you live in a place where it rains an ungodly amount, (we're from Manchester) but if you have a look round some thrift stores you can usually find some pretty nice mountain jackets tucked away at the back. Don't go for anything with more than two colours though.

(this is the only picture i can find of what i'm chatting about - taken a year or so ago)

Actually, Berghaus and Patagonia can be acceptable - although it's definitely about the colours rather than the brand.
Fuck North Face though.

Is that Berghaus? Was thinking of copping some of their stuff on sale at Millet lol but was unsure of the qual. Would prob tape or patch over the logo though.

lol, the UK dad scene are big on their mountain jackets.

This is my jacket.
Cost me about £35.
Decent at keeping off light to mid showers.
The brand is one called Profile - I'd never heard of it before i bought it.

I have a torrentshell. It's pretty damn good. I'm usually an XS but I got it in S. There's a little billowing around my waist, but otherwise it fits fine. I got it a few years ago, so I can't vouch if the newer models have changed much.

If it's torrential and I don't care how I look, a Marmot Precip rain shell. Serious dad jacket but works like nothing I've ever owned.

i don't like that jacket. marmot is a good company, but the precip series is p bad, on a scale. for your money, just invest in patagonia or arcteryx.. it may cost 1.5 or 2x as much, but you won't regret having to put it on. i like my rain jacket and rainy days are awesome because thats just another excuse to wear and go out in it...

I got the Precip pretty cheap when they changed colorways so it wasn't bad for the money. I actually lost it somehow (think somebody jacked it from my house actually), so I'll replace it eventually, but now that I live in SoCal there are maybe two days a year where it would be useful so I'm not in any hurry.
