that's a really interesting question, but i feel like mediocrity is worse.
although it really does depend on a lot of things.

an example:

Mediocrity is what happens when you're worried about appealing to everyone.

a lot of the "good fits" would be seen as complete shit to the average person.
they'd be considered "bad" to everyone but a select few.
those who think it's good will really appreciate it though.
or at least they'll feel a "connection" to it.

the person in a "mediocre" fit will actually look great to most people.
