funny thing is that all three designers mostly work with a dropped silhouette, and all three have their "high waisted pants and cropped tight jackets" exceptions. i'm unsure what has created this situation (yohji? kawakubo?), but its the mark of this current fashion era, i think. i do not think any of these three are 'derivative' of one another, i just think its the current discourse. for clarification purposes i am talking about men's fashion outside suiting (there's other interesting stuff going on there--thanks thom browne).

to understand boris youd have to see and try on some of it in person. i tried to come up with a description of these pants he does every other season that have a unique fastening system but failed to explain it intelligibly.

rick has done punk/grime/texture a little, but it isn't a central feature of his clothes the way it is for bbs. off the top of my head rick has done acrylic painted drkshdw stuff, the 'hog' wash for his denim, and reverse-calf leather boots. maybe a waxed cotton thing here or there. but these are terminal projects. look at most things in his mainline and the garments. although they are processed/washed to be soft, they are still clean.

i misspoke/mistyped. drape is involved a little but what i meant to say was that boris is concerned with layering at a depth rick is not. sure, yes, rick does layers. but when was the last time you saw him wearing four different tops of different lengths?

next, your definition of luxurious decay as punk is not disagreeable, but i meant punk in a more aesthetic and historically rooted sense, not abstract or in terms of attitude.

i also disagree w/ ur earlier point. im not trying to say that rick is 'more punk' than bbs or something dumb like that but i'd argue that a piece shouldn't or doesn't need to be obviously, intentionally distressed off the rack for it to be dirty or grungy, or considered more 'punk' than something else. with rick the wearer develops and destroys his own clothing, which is appealing to me

that isnt to say rick doesn't do pre-distressed clothing, im just trying to make the point that a treated, preworn 'look' or feature that makes a piece look fragile or beaten ≠ grunge
