are there any brands of boots that have a profile similar to a Viberg service boot without a 1 grand price tag /fa/?

There are some.
The closest being the Chevalier Captoe in their chromexcel series. An Indonesian shoemaker. Can take up to a month, +/-$300US

The Oak Street Bootmakers captoe trench boot. $450+

You can get a custom order from White's boots (one with an unstructured toecap) that can be close. Dunno how much this will cost all up.

The closest last I've seen is the Chevalier.
Difficult to get a response from the makers though; I'm still waiting on what kind of leather colours they have.

With Viberg it's nearly 800 bucks (perhaps more if you go custom), and a 4 or so months wait time.

OSB's trench is probably ready to buy now. Whites? I don't know how long they take to create a custom order. Chevalier? 1-2 months.

I had a look at a viberg service boot in person, and though I do like the overall profile, the finishing on it was not what I would have expected for something edging closer to a grand. Still, apparently their construction quality is top notch.

We'll see how it goes with Chev; I've got some other custom orders pending elsewhere, and if I still have the inclination to follow up with them (if they ever reply, that is) then I might just order a pair.

And here's a pic of a White's custom with the unstructured toe (without a toecap, that I think can be requested, which is preferable IMO, both in regards to aesthetics and for durability issues)

And that's pretty much the consensus of visible internet chatter, OP.
There's some English makers that have low toe boxes that aren't bulbous like Red Wing nor boxy like Wolverine, but they aren't as close to the service boot last of Viberg.

Nah, that toe shape is too different, rounded and high. Still a decent boot though, just not similar enough to the Vi service boot.

It's a very unique last, at least for this day and age. Such a style was a lot more common the first half of last century.

All the info about Chevalier comes from one guy on leddit that went through the ordering process. Since then I've noticed that a few more have done so - no other reviews as of yet.

Those are pretty nice. The site says $195 USD.
I dunno. I might order those instead of katahdins since they don't seem to go on sale.

+postage and perhaps customs tax depending on where you live, gets up to near 300.
Postage is the killer. I think the going rate they had was like 60USD.
If you have any indo friends you might want to call them up, as like in all such crappy countries, there are two prices: one for locals, and a hyper-inflated one for foreigners.

bump for interest.

Whole LL Bean site hate 20% off the Monday before black Friday so Katahdins were only $168. Maybe they'll have another sale after Christmas.
