Would /fa/ ever make some of their own clothing?
Why or why not?
Im seriously considering it.
>plenty of boutique fabric shops here
>decent as sewing. Def need to be better
>have a keen eye for detail

You should. I never tried my hand at it because I have terrible coordination.

Just make sure to get some good inspo before you start, so you don't end up with a piece that feels overloaded or too understated.

>> No.7393498

I plan on it
I don't know when I'll actually do it...

>> No.7393505

i cannot sew for the life of me, so I would if I could, and I've tried, but I can't. I don't have the patience for handicraft hobbies either lol

>> No.7393520

There have been threads in the past. There are some /fa/ggots here who do in fact do this but the topic doesn't come up often. I guess we're overdue for one of these threads.

So true. The problem is I wanna divebright into unique shit like
>pic related
(Hand dyed organic fabric)
But feel Im still too new to really use appropriately

Yeah it seems like it's been forever.
Would love to hear from some of them about their experiences and see some creations

Dude, just try it. I mean, if you didn't have any previous experience as a cutter or any trade like that I'm sure your first pieces might not look too good. But as long as you have some sort of vision for what you want, you'll eventually get there.

Of course, then you might decide you don't like your vision, then you try something else. And so on. Meanwhile, your wardrobe swells in size with sick pieces that don't skimp out on fabric/craftsmanship.

going to dip dye a couple o' shirts
need dye tho
might attempt a tie dye if I feel like it

>> No.7393547

I've purchased tshirts and cut the neck/sleeves if that counts

>> No.7393548

not talented at all at design not much of an intrest for me either.

inb4 twerk comes in brags about himself and starts an arugement.

>> No.7393555

I have some basic sewing skill that I am interested in expanding on. I'm considering attending school for fashion design in the future, though it's apparently quite difficult to get in to the school I want (http://www.ryerson.ca/index.html)) so I'm going to need a lot of practice.

>> No.7393557

Was thinking of just picking up knitting.
I know how to work a machine and do some hand stitches, but I don't think I could invest enough time into designing and creating my own clothes.

Experimented with bleach/dyes and distressing before.

No, I don't want to look like a hippie. I will leave clothing to the professionals.

If only Brooks Brothers did an extra slim fit white oxford sport shirt again instead of just a fuckin' dress one. Or if stylish brands actually did slim fitted khaki chinos instead of "slim fit" AKA parachutes.

Is design school worth it? Or would it just be better to try and intern/suck the dick of known designers?
Even going to a top school, what would thebmarket be like?

>Meanwhile, your wardrobe swells in size with sick pieces that don't skimp out on fabric/craftsmanship.
That mental image is just wicked to think about.
My only concern is how much better could my actual craftsmanship be when that little thai girl has done literally hundreds of thousands more articles than me.

I don't think it's possible to become a legit designer unless you go to design school, because it's really not the type of thing you can teach yourself.

You could take a shirt that fits in the shoulders and neck to a tailor?

She doesn't care about the pieces she's paid fractions of cents to sew.

You do.

>> No.7393596

>>7393561
You could maybe get a good tailor? I'm not even sure why you're name-dropping here, just makes you come across as a bit conceited.

>> No.7393602

do it bruh.
i only mod clothing for diy. never make it myself, but by all means do it

>it's really not the type of thing you can teach yourself
>please ignore all the designers like Hedi Slimane and Tom Ford who are self-taught

>> No.7393639

>>7393602
Tailoring seems like a whole art unto itself.
id be crazy scared to start modding a lot of my own stuff.
Howd you get in to it?
>>7393592
Very valid point. More than anything Im really in to the idea of truly appreciating the artistry of clothing again.
How I dress has almost become formulaic, and I hate it.
/fa/ in its elitism sometimes makes you feel self conscious to experiment with different parts of your personality.

>> No.7393646

>>7393620
ok i don't know anything about hedi slimane or tom ford because i think they're boring designers so sorry if i ignored them

>> No.7393657

>>7393639
In all honesty, don't listen to /fa/. Look at how fucking boring they all are in the waywt thread.
If you want to experiment with fashion you can't listen to anyone's advice on how to do it right, because you're not doing it for them.

>> No.7393664

>>7393657
Don't listen to this tard either. People posting in waywt are not designers they are basic bitches asking for feedback

>> No.7393682

>>7393664
If you want designers go to SZ, not 4chan you fucking mong.

>> No.7393691

>>7393664
Thats a bit excessive.
Hes made some really relevant points.
Youre taking out of context the statement to which youre referring. For arguments sake, waywt threads are /fa/ wide, not just basics. Unless youre implying all of /fa/ are basic bitchea.
Also, designers tend to dress quite basic themselves if thats what youre implying- though I could be wrong

>> No.7393700

Stop mentioning sewing. It's the least important aspect.
Go to /cgl/ and learn about pattern making.it's a bitch.

>> No.7393726

>>7393700
Relevant point.
I personally dont find manipulating plans very difficult as I have a pretty mechanically inclined mind, but getting a more solid foundation is a great idea.

tailoring i could never fuck with because i just dont have the skills
i started by buying baseball jerseys from ebbets and using spray paint and krink to tag the back . i haven't gone too far because i dont wanna ruin dope pieces but yea
experimenting is fun. it's a cliche but there's no one way of doing it
