I am going into the Red Wing Shoe Store tmmrw to purchase shoes.

What are the approved colors for the
Heritage Iron Ranger or Beckman styles?

I am not skinnyfag and I lift so I'm not worried about boxyness

For the beckman, the 9016 is the standard. The 9011 I thought looked like it would be pretty nice after a while and it got beat up a bit. The 9030 is a moctoe, and I think it has the best color.

For IR, I'd take either the 8115 (looks a bit more rugged in photos) or the 8111. Just remember that Beckmans are better work boots, since IRs have a worse sole than beckmans.

This, the Beckmans have easily replaced soles as they're just commando soles. IRs you pretty much have to send them back to RW to get resoled. I recently had my ones resoled and it took 6 weeks and 75 USD. I saved on shipping as I sent to them to a mate in the states who was kind enough to bring them back to Aus for me.

I personally prefer the IR but some prefer the Beckmans. They're both great boots. Just pick the one you like the most.

My take on it:
If the IR, go the Copper rough n' tough (forgot the model number).

It is lighter, generally, than the Amber Harness - the mid-brown one - but is IMO more versatile.

It will get darker, and look pretty much identical, to the Amber when you treat it with conditioner/oil or whatever RW specifically recommends for that kind of leather (I don't know what that is, but they have a list that shoes what should go on what boots with what kind of leather.)

If you want it light, you can keep it light. If dark, put that shit on it and it's as dark as the amber. The amber can never become as light as the copper, but the copper can become dark. Plus you can get this nice pattern (see pic) with wear with the copper; it's more subdued with the amber as it's not as light to begin with.

With the Beckmans I'm partial to the Black Cherry (again, forgot the model number). However, in bright sunlight I'm afraid that it may look too red, and if you are of the sort of build that clownshoe syndrome is a worry, then perhaps go for something else; you don't, after all, want to look like ronald mcdonald.

The other one is the cigar tobacco one, the lighter brown. It looks nice in photos, but in person it was kinda boring - but that was an old beat up pair I saw in a shop - only had that one left as an example. Perhaps it is nice after a good polishing though? The beckmans, unlike the oiltanned leather of say, the amber IR, take a shine.
They're a dressier kind of boot; IR's are more "work boot" like.

So, in general, just avoid the black models.
It's too boring and you can prolly a nice black boot in some other brand.

I don't like the hawthorne (suede like) IR; i've seen them after a year's wear and it looks filthy. Still, if you care and clean for them properly (still, that kind of leather is more difficult to keep clean IMO).

i need a contemporary to the diemme roccias pictured but for less than $200. MUST have a white crepe/wedge/cristy sole and MUST by all black in a non leather material. ideas?
