And do you really think Sruli couldn't do amazing sketches if he wanted to? His design process is unique but he has has the base technical knowledge to allow for it.

You're the kind of person that thinks Picasso started with his crazy cubist paintings. He had brilliant technical skills which allowed him to break the rules.

id do the external layer in a mid weight neoprene so it stays stiff enough, i think it would be able to get the raised collar effect and sleeves that hold their shape.

the type of texture i think you were trying to draw on the shirt underneath is done on motorcycle pants/jackets, its generally a custom machine that sews any material (generally leather or denim) to a stretched piece of elastic underneath in exact distances creating a repeating sort of rib effect, it allows for heavy materials to have extreme mobility

if you just want to achieve the look, you just use a lightweight cotton batting (see pic on the inside of some jersey, and sew repeating lines over it.

none of that stuff is super complicated in terms of pattern, its just that all of the little patches and little lines on everything might be a bit time consuming to do very neatly

the best way for you to keep the bumps raised is to use a stretchy material as the under layer and use a less stretchy top layer. You will need to sew lines of top stitching through both layers while the under layer is stretched. When you let go of the stretched material underneath, it will force the top layer to create a "bump" with the excess material being pulled inwards by the elastic underlayer.

cotton batting/foams/neoprene/soft felts, but given that its a knit i would hestitate to use something very heavy, or just make it fairly oversized. i think i would try a layer of high stretch lycra underneath a cotton jersey

first, dont worry about mimicing styles at all, you would have to do it for thousands of hours, and its extremely important to learn a variety of techniques and approaches.

second, i personally dont like working from books very much, i find that its kind of shit if you want to be able to draw from your head easily (which is how i like to design)

i find that a great way to get better is to put objects on a table and practice making accurate perspective and understanding how shading and light functions in relation to perspective.

i think the absolute best training is drawing from life in a combination of fast poses and longer ones. but if you dont have access to a model, draw your friends or people in public or your dog.

its just a skill, the more you do it the better you get. i never drew at all until 18 months ago when i wanted to learn to design. i dont think im anywhere near proficient but the only way to improve is just do it often and with discipline

then buy "a guide to fashion sewing" on amazon and a random pants pattern from the fabric store, and cut a pair and sew them in some random cotton or something.

if you do those things youll learn lots. sew a few shirts, a few pants, and a jacket (just buy the patterns) and then pick up a patternmaking book and have some fun :)

Hey man, love your sketches. Is this for a project or are you hoping to get into design just for the sake of it?

>>7360743
Your stuff is really impressive as well, top kudos. What are you using your talent for at the moment?

I'm just now trying to get back into drawing, my goal is more comic/graphic novel oriented however I would love to also fabricate props and design costumes for film (or funnin around in costplay) All I've got on me are stickynote sketches I did at my old boring job, and I am aware they're not very good.

Well you have some fine ass work, I was just wondering if you plan on doing... well, anything.

Right now I'm more of a doodler than an artist, but I really want to get back into it.

Well, there's taking on commissioned work, but depending on the scene you could be drawing some asinine stuff.

You can get involved in graphic art for stories, or even something commercial like traditional games.

But, I dunno man, drawing just to draw is fine too. When I was at my pique, I loved working on commissions, but drawing lewd stuff can get old. Do you use any art programs or are you strictly traditional medium?

Also, what kind of paper do you use? It looks really nice and all.

Aw man, wish I could afford a proper education.

I was thinking of at least starting with a handful of classes, see if it clicks and maybe save up for the rest.

How far along are you?

I don't think the company is called Skizzenblock. It's just the german word for sketchbook.
