you can grow the top out longish and put some light curl/texture in it so it's less asian straight and spiky. don't color it though beyond some low lights to emphasize texture.

use a curling iron and curl the top back, with your asian hair it would give you some loose wave and use a wide tooth comb to style. (I would use a no clamp iron and heat glove personally but any iron ill do as long as the barrel isn't too small) watch out for clamp marks and burning yourself. you can also give some wave using a flat iron. look on youtube for how to vids

good start but just do it short with maybe a blend near the longer top. I wouldn't completely shave it.. It's most likely going to take a few haircuts and styling practice but that's normal so be patient if it doesn't turn out right the first time. you should so some subtle natural looking low lights to emphasize the texture especially on top and around your face where your hair would naturally be sun bleached and lighter.

as long as the temp is not set too high, the heat stays off your head and you use heat protecting products it's fine. If you're suffering from hair loss then don't do it.

you could do it the old fashioned way and use large rollers and heat from a blow dryer with product. there's no way you're going to get straight hair to curl with just applying product. You'll have to manipulate your hair with either rollers and time or use heat. Unless you actually want a jew fro and use perming solution.

asian hair/ asian mix hair has a LOT of red undertones so the low lights would need a lot of green toning. You'll have to find a colorist who's familiar with asian hair or you could end up with reddish streaks instead of subtle brown tones. This guy has subtle coloring that highlights his texture but blends with the natural black. Hair coloring is an art so don't expect it to turn out right the first time or even the second. Your hair has special challenges that are not impossible to get through.

even if it comes out slightly red (like this guy)it should be ok with your complexion. I think painting on the dye/bleaching product would make more natural and less uniform.

better look at how shades of brown can be used well with black asian hair. You really need a good colorist thought. Don't try a box dye or doing it yourself because it'll turn out ginger/red.

you could look up tutes on youtubes. there are literally shittons of how to dye/color/bleach asian hair without ending up with brassy hair. I do my own hair (less than $18 to do my highlights and lowlights), it's brown so I also run in to the red problem but now that I've practiced a few times with toning and researching reviews on products I have no problem and people usually come to me before they go to my neighbor who's actually a stylist. I can't cut hair but I've gotten good at hair color theory just on my own. If you want to save money then put in the time to learn it yourself. You pay for fashion one way or another lol. Good luck man and being biracial means that you'll be looking at asian/white/hispanic fashion to find a good customized fit for yourself. It's going to be little more complicated but that's what half blacks have to go through as well. They have a MUCH harder time than eurasians.

$18 dollars goes a long way at sally's beauty for supplies because you basically need developer (peroxide) a toner (to counter the red) and maybe some bleaching powder. It doesn't take much to actually do the low lights so my supplies last for about 3 months. Also you need gloves and some type of applicator brush to put the dye/bleach/whatever in. The art part comes in when watching how light your hair is getting and the right toning color. It's not an exact science because you don't know how fast or how slow your hair color develops and what strength developer you need to use. Like I said there are tons of asian specific hair dying videos (they helped me even though I'm not asian that's how I know)
