That's one approach to basic. Some people think of "basic" purely in terms of color and wear; some people purely in terms of classic, standard silhouettes; some in relation to more complicated pieces. I wear stuff like Geller and Wang and Rick basics because those shapes and cuts and colors work with my wardrobe.
