"Authentic" means built to military specifications. Alpha Industries makes a mil-spec bomber but it will run you $600. It is built in the USA and AI is under current contract to make them for the USAF. Whether these work with your style depends on what you want out of a bomber. The anon who told you to get an "authentic" one is referring to their adoption among the skinhead community as the de facto uniform. Skinheads are understandably resistant to what they see as the corruption of their chosen aesthetic – the reduction of weight, use of shitty non-mil-spec fabrics, and general pollution of the design of the bomber that occurs when brands like ASOS make their own version.

Probably the best reproduction bomber out there is by Buzz Rickson's. They are even more expensive and rare, but they have basically taken the art of reproducing these bombers to the highest, most technically-detailed obsessive level. A black version of the bomber was prominently featured in William Gibson's novel Pattern Recognition, despite the fact that no black version of the bomber was being produced at the time by Rickson's. However, after the massive popularity of the book (NYT bestseller list etc.) Rickson's released a William Gibson collection of black garments inspired by the main character Cayce Pollard (pictured).

Yeah no problem, and to be honest, I'm not the kind of purist who would reject fashion-forward bomber designs out of hand. Pieces like this Alexander Wang bomber are clearly beautiful and well-constructed. There's a lot of be gained from reducing the complexity and boiling down military garments to their essential lines.

they never stopped making them, I believe. The specs are the same as the original.

Luckily I got myself a white, it's sold out from their online store. I might just buy another one in black.

Thanks for bringing this up.
