general rule : don't buy fashion watches

mainly due to poor resale and the fact they're usually licensed to other watch makers that use generic movements.

The reason why this doesn't apply to say watch makers that use generic movements like ETA is largely due to the watch makers' own stellar reputations and thus ability to hold and retrain value.

Invicta was a true Swiss brand a while ago. I imagine they died in the quartz crisis. The rights to the name were bought by an American entrepreneur, who is permitted to claim lineage to the original Invictas history. These days, they don't do any actual manufacturing and I somewhat doubt that they do any assembly. Like many companys, they have an OEM who does everything and slaps Invicta's name on their products while Invictas simply markets and sells.

The new Invicta is a mixed bag: their business model, their constant "sales" and overinflated "MSRP", poor customer service, sometimes poor quality control, over-branding of their product, and their claims to their past which are legally legitimate (regrettably) are detested by most watch collectors.

However, they do have some good offers from time to time and many watch collectors begin their hobby with Invicta. So long as you're not seeking repairs under warranty or contacting the company themselves, they can be ok watches.

Well no shit. No one could possibly claim that 40 hour power reserve via winding is better method of storing energy than 2$ battery that lasts 5 years, starts to warn you couple of months before running out of power, and costs about 5$ to change at jewellery if you can't do it yourself.

The sole attraction of mechanical watch is romanticism and subjective mental imagery.

$815 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. 80 bucks for that hunk of brass would be a rip off. You can put a $100000 price tag on a tata nano, but sl merc it does not make. Current Invicta is based on Florida, but even the old invicta that was rumored to be Swiss (there's no records of that in Geneva) was not a revered brand at all. Have anyone ever actually seen any vintage invicta? I sure haven't. Most of their watches have Chinese movements and the "hi-end" pieces use cheap Japanese movements. Other parts as well as assembly are made in China. So don't go waving that skin cancer factory around like some swagfagnigger saying it's some sort of luxury item (that you "happened" to get 80% off) when you have no clue what you're talking about.

Oh boy. You fell victim to Invictas marketing "scam", on which their whole business seems to be based on.

Invicta uses bullshit RRP's (retail prices). Literally every single Invicta watch is on massive "sale", 60% off, sometimes even 80% off. That's all just a bullshit though, they never cost the retail, they are designed to cost the retail. That's just a number they pulled from thin air.

They basically just scam people to impulse buy that shit because you think you are getting a good deal.

Pic related, I literally just went to Amazon, searched for Invicta and this is what came up.

in that price range (i'm guessing around $500) you can have much better timepieces than those designer watches
if i were you, i'd rather look into cheaper swiss brands like tissot, certina, doxa etc. or german bauhaus models, maybe russian chronographs, for both of which examples can be found above

tldr i'd never buy a designer watch

if youre getting a metal bracelet style watch, this would not be a good choice. the rubber banded black one looks a lit better if you want a similar looking casio. i would find a different metal bracelet watch if youre set on having one.

again this is my own opinion, i personally find it a little homely looking... if you really like it then get it

Any recommendations for metal braced watches?

to be honest i dont really have any recommendations.

the only two watches that i wear are a timex easy reader and the black rubber version of the casio watch you posted in your last post.

i know they make a metal bracelet version if the easy reader but i dont know if youd like that. just shop around more and see what you like. my roommate has a really nice seiko with a metal bracelet but i think his was over 100 dollars. you might wanna start looking there

Yeah, in the pic it looked like more of a brown with a red tint.

Also, this is the only shirt I have that doesn't clash with it fiercely.

Thoughts on the *style* of band? I think the rivets go with my personality - I'm an engineer and former machinist.

One other thought -- I had a belt that was this same shit-red color, and I used a darkening leather polish to make it more of a brown -- think I could pull that off?
Thanks for the input.

Just make sure it isn't one of those bund straps (google if you don't get what I mean, basically that don't go under the watch). Also, does the strap really have to be an extension of your personality?

Your watch is rather chunky, and has that little bronze tint. If you want it to me more casual, Id definitely go with thick brown leather. Something like pic related. If you want more dressy look, I'd go with the thinner alligator style above.

Thinking about copping a uniform wares. Dunno how I feel about the chronograph ones or the ones with the date sign (the 203 series. The 152 series looks like it's for a child, so that leaves me with the 103 series. Watched do look about hundred times better live than in Amazon stock photos.

If you like the watch buy it. Check price from Creationwatches.com first though, they usually have cheaper rates than Amazon, also they have free delivery.

Consider changing the strap though, in both looks (and propably quality as well knowing entry level Seikos) it's the weakest part of the watch. It would look good on leather too.
