So /fa/, I come to you trendy motherfuckers to ask; just how does one pull off a vintage/retro look without looking like a fag?

I'm 6'2, slim, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm a handsome guy. I just think if I attempt this look I'll look too much like pic related. I understand the look is 100 years out of fashion, so I need some tips to modernise a 1920's gangster look.

I copped a pair of these and am waiting for them in the mail and plan to dress them up with some high-waist slacks or down with some cheap monday skinny jeans and a Levi's vintage scoop tee to get that sort of working class look without coming off as trying too hard or pretentious.

Also- suspenders; yay or nay? Could look cool over a plain tee and a harrington jacket. I'm not going to don the anti-poon fedora, but was thinking of investing in a bowler or newsboy cap.

Basically I love the time period, Boardwalk Empire sort of shit. I want to pull off the no-nonsense, stripped down, almost utilitarian look of the working class back in those days without turning into that one creep who dresses up in 100 year old suits. What are some tips people? Accessories, matches? Link me some good shit.

Hey thats a great start, thanks. Sanders got some pretty beautiful photgraphy going on. And some of those Mamamoto pieces are perfect.

I figure my best bet would be to keep it dressed down and accessorize with certain pieces to pull the look together so I dont dress too ott. Will start looking around for good vintage belts, watches, chains and ties.

If you're handsome and tall on top of that you're already like 80% of the way to pulling off most looks, assuming handsome/tall includes an /fa/ body as well

There's no way to not look ridiculous, because you're intentionally dressing out of style.

That said,
Only have facial hair if you can actually grow facial hair. Not like, "yeah man my goatee is pretty ok", as in, you grow a full beard? Good, have that, sure, if not, clean shaven. Be brutally honest here. Half of the neckbeard look comes from the reputation for shitty weird looking facial hair, hence the name. You posted a good example of someone who probably thinks they grow a good beard, but really needs to shave that gross piece of shit off.

Next, make sure you don't have a baby face. I know everyone always go "step one dont be unattractive step two be attractiveherpderperp" but really - you need to look *adult* to pull of these styles. Again, a lot of the autist reputation of these clothes comes from the fact that most people wearing them look like kids wearing costumes.

If you're going with a no nonsense 1920's look, honestly, you don't even need to go that far in the "vintage" look - you could pull off an almost skinheadish type look with that, I'd think.

I mean, I don't want to take your word that you're handsome because that's what fucking everyone in a costume zootsuit says about themselves. Pics?

i wouldnt say u have 2 avoid antique clothing, but u need to be styling them in a way that makes sense in a modern context, with a modern vocabulary

i have a friend that wears antique suiting and shoes but he wears the pants tailored super slim and plays in a shoegaze band and also wears carpe diem and shit
