Im going to Japan for a month in February next year (Winter period) and I need a nice warm jacket for the streets and the slopes.

What would /fa/ recommend? I'd like something nice and toasty that also looks good.

Budget is between $100->$250 AUD

Also Australian, and me too...

Just copped pic related and a cheap monday bart parka

Was there last winter too and was fuck-freezing. I would recommend thermals and scarves and sweaters, and when you're there get a 'room set' from Uniqlo, shit is the comfiest holy fuck, especially if your accomodation is cheap

What are everyone's plans?

OP here, me and 4 friends are going 1st of Feb until the 23rd. We arrive in tokyo, stay a night, instantly take the bullet train to Osaka and jump from hostel to hostel for two weeks, snowboard, do whatever. Then we're spending the last week in Tokyo. One of us has been before, the rest of us, no idea what to expect.

Will that jacket look good on you if you're skinny?

>> No.7114844

>>7114825
I don't know about that one in particular, but the parka look is very much being skinny and having it drape down at the front unbuttoned

Would look 'tard if you filled it out

Thanks for your response. What about the arms though? What if it made your arms look skinnier than they already are? Would that look okay? I'm going to order it off the internet so I don't really have a point of reference here.

Honestly wouldn't worry about the arms, but if you're wanting to look like you lift, try a different look. Parkas and field jackets are usually about being all drapey and thin and long, especially with all those dangling drawstring things

I live in Tokyo and it doesn't get that cold in the winter. Last year it snowed twice I believe and the temperatures were around 0 celcius-ish when it snowed.

Not sure where you are going boarding, probably Nagano or Hokkaido somewhere, then you will need something proper.

I was there for the snow, dude, even before that it was fucking freeze-your-balls-off cold. Maybe you're used to it because you live there, but when I came from Australia I was completely not prepared for that at all. Pack warm shit.

I don't know man, I think my body is naturally just warmer or something. I go to work all winter with nothing but a suit and a thermal undershirt with a scarf and I'm good. And I'm a pretty thin guy, so I thought I was normal.

But people here do wear shit like Canada goose in plus 10 C conditions. lol

>> No.7114953

don't get some thing from a fashion brand go to mountain peak or Kathmandu. for 300$ you can get a low end mountain jacket that looks good and will be worm enough for travels. Tip with travel ware is getting some thing you would be comfortable having tied around your waste so if you want it /fa/ I would recommend a patterning on it. that way its both grunge and space age via space fabrics.. that's pretty fucking in do it

If you wear thermal long johns you can get away with a jacket and a sweater over a shirt in tokyo winter. Muffler is also nice.
