/fa/, why is men's fashion so fucking boring? Everywhere I look, it's just the same singularity.
>T-shirt
>Button-up shirt
>Suit and Tie combo
>Vest optional
>Slacks or Jeans
>Dress Shoes or Sneakers.

Why can we not dress in anything more elaborate, varied, or unique? Why isn't anything else out there for those guys who want to dress in a manner which isn't yet another carbon copy of buying based on Brand and Logo, but also is not literally made for homosexuals?

I just don't get it. This kind of shit really makes me despise the fashion industry. That they can praise being a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy, and demonize anybody who DARES dress any bit differently. What is the point of this?

Is women's fashion any different? Dress or if you have cleavage dress that reveals cleavage.

>well what would you have them wear?
With the bevy of possibilities we could have for fashion, I'd accept guys wearing capes and pirate hats in the streets before dealing with more of these cookie-cutter suits.

>Is women's fashion any different?
Go into any clothing store whatsoever. If you go into the women's department, you will see a rainbow of choices. T-shirts, dresses, skirts, blouses, a variety of coats in all colors, fabrics, shapes, sizes, styles, and whathave you. Go into the men's departments, and you see T-shirts, hoodies, and if you venture far enough in, you'll eventually get to the aisles with black, grey, subtle blue, and subtle brown sport coats and suit jackets. Little to nothing else.

We have almost everything at our disposal to do anything we can to fashion, yet we still sit with such a pathetically limited space for what we even attempt to do.

Looks dumb, and you're dumb. Formal wear requires conformity and always has. It's monotonous now because we're globalized and individual culture no longer exists as it used to. Black guys wear crazy suits though. But that's only because culturally they aren't expected to be toned down since they are assumed new money by default.

Imagine a male dressing like this >>7101896
Now you tell me you will respect a grown ass adult male looking like that. You want a male dressed like a clown to handle your banking needs, handle running a restaurant you eat at? Or do you want someone who looks like they know what they are doing.
Menswear is about being able to dress for respect and professionalism, its not a competition for ~PeRsOnAl ExPrEsSiOn~
Dress how you want on your own dime, but don't expect to get respect if you do.

Just have to look harder. Jumpers and cardigans often have a complex look to them. You can't wear them in somewhere like California, I think.

Many things are more often seen up north. Trapper hats aren't a fashion accessory up north. The sideburns cover up the side of your face which is quite comfortable when it's windy and cold. Scarves cover up your neck and if you wrap them around your face, you'll have trouble breathing and it will get quite moist and if you have glasses, you won't see shit because the vapor will clog your shit.

I meant this as like why not just wear a scarf around your face.

As with trapper hats, same with the beard heads. I believe they're quite comfortable when it's windy and cold. I mean a cold wind is pain. Not a pain in the ass, but pain.

Men's fashion isn't boring... where you see men's fashion is boring. If you look at places like GQ or Esquire, they're going to keep it safe with suiting. Try looking at fashion blogs. Try looking at streetwear. Try reading The Sartorialist. Hell, go to SuFu or SZ.

You're the problem here, since you're squinting and complaining about it being dark.

OP, I wholeheartedly agree. Mens fashion feels like it never really changes. When it does (ever so slightly) absolutely everyone seems to copy that...then from there, anyone else who doesn't dress that way is seen a freak?

Women can easily pull off wearing mens clothing, but at the current state, men generally can't do the same with womens clothing. It's a double standard that I think personally sucks. I do know what you mean about the variety women have compared to men.

I think more men need to try and be brave and wear more 'out there' clothes...and furthermore, if you seen other men wearing said 'out there' clothes, don't ridicule them...that's the type of thing that sends us backwards, and chances are they will stop trying to be as unique in their clothing.

When men start wearing different, non traditional masculine clothes that you might expect to see in a womens sections, then it could catch on. Stores will start to stock the same stuff in the mens section, and that is a huge turning point for men.

When women go into a clothes shop, they aren't worried about drifting in the mens section. They don't care because that's what has been accepted culturally for ages, unlike men who seem so afraid to lose some 'masculinity' whatever the fuck they think that actually is.

>> No.7102175

Oh yeah and to add to that. I think the people in charge of retail shops are to blame. They shouldn't have separate mens and womens sections. It should all just blend together and you can find what you like. Unisex is the way forward. If you buy something that is intended for a womanly figure with tits then it should be entirely your own fault for being so stupid. Loads of womens jackets and shoes are awesome and should be worn by both genders, provided they fit you.

nothing does! I buy combat boots that are technically 'womens' even though there isn't a fucking difference and they fit men fine. Most of the boots you see in mens section just look boring to me. They either look too much like hiker boots or look pointy or something that like (I'm personally not the biggest fan of pointy shoes).

>>7102214
Exactly. It's the most unmanly thing ever to be afraid of wearing what you might like the look of...but so many are. I generally don't know how other guys think, maybe most are like sheep who only like something after a man they respect has worn them, and can't see the awesomeness of some womens clothing to begin with. Others probably just lie to themselves that these top branded mens clothes look better and they must wear them almost exclusively.

I never take anyone serious who thinks they are above "sheep" or "sheeple."

Top menswear brands have cuts and are fitted to flatter the male body, it isnt the same as the garbage you see on the streets. You have decent ideas, but are too pretentious to have them come across as anything other than you sounding like a wannabe tranny.

>> No.7102402

To whoever started this thread and started making bizarre comments by saying menswear should go the same direction as womenswear:

You're an idiot.

The thing about menswear you and I suppose many people on this board aren't getting is the fact that it's still supposed to preserve some hint of utilitarianism, mostly out of respect for history but also due to common sense. They're still present in many ways: large (sometimes oversized) pockets, extra buttons, vents, action pleats, and so on.

It's in many ways a throwback to the times when people only bought their clothes bespoke and actually put some thought into its use and the times when menswear was mostly cut with military uniforms in mind.

And that spirit, alongside the influence of Beau Brummell and his minimalistic (at least for the time) aesthetic made menswear what it is today: somewhat rugged and conformist, but still very /fa/ and flattering towards the model of a male body.

However, in your probable ignorance, you started implying men need to be more like women, that is by dressing without any practical spirit in mind and without any regard for body shape/gender identity. That is very wrong and disrespectful.

Of course, you did raise some okay points, like the over-conformization of menswear (the "classic" shapeless navy suit for one) and how retarded the "designs" of lad(-ish) mags like Esquire and GQ are. However, that presents absolutely no excuse to discard the current incarnation of menswear entirely (even if the course it has taken seems rather worrisome) or to switch to some weird new cross-dressing fashion.

Well, the assumption in my first post is that modern menswear (coats, minimalism, utility and such) started with Beau Brummell in the Regency period, and some military dress before (which inspired him in particular, that and his lack of money for clothes as fancy as the other nobles'). Sorry for not stating that more clearly.
