Growing out my hair to shoulder-length, got a couple questions:

Some quick info: My hair's thick as all hell and poofs like crazy if I don't put a couple fingertip sized globs of pomade through it, even with shampoo&conditioner. Been growing the hair out for 7 months now, but I'm trying to minimize the shittyness of the upcoming awkward stage.

>1.) My bangs currently reach almost to the tip of my nose. Once my hair (bangs) gets to bottom lip-chin length, should putting some Got2B gel onto the bangs and sides in order to hold it into place (off to the side) work just fine? Any other products you'd recommend to hold everything in place?

>2.) Until my hair gets to ponytail length I'll have to come up with a couple different styles besides the part & fringe. For the meantime, any particular styles you would recommend as I grow it out?

I've been doing this haircut for quite some time now.
Short description:

Whenever I go from long to short hair I try and picture the length I want, then go a bit longer than that.. because going really short can often seem like too much
something like pic related whilst being around the same length is just a bit longer I think would be bueno
