I earnestly appreciate the classic NB designs. It is *not* ironic one bit, but the very basicness and their pure derivation from function (versus dramatic, hyped contemporary sneaker designs, which I also like BTW) is the appeal. They don't look like they're trying to be anything but comfortable, basic urban sneaks. Same kind of appeal the Nike Cortez has today.

New Balances especially seem to say the wearer is someone who's comfortable, relaxed, down to earth, calm, chill.

theyre not tho. basic shoes are like cps. there is nothing there but upper, midsole, and outsole. nb has so many bullshit pieces to their upper, have that disgusting n, and that retarded plastic on the heel that only serves to have another logo on it.
they are not basic by design.

The mesh is for breathability, the suede is for durability and support. Having multiple panels give the shoe more structure. The plastic bit stabilizes the heel while running. Logos are normal on sneakers that aren't CPs. This functionality, in a design that's much cleaner and less techy than later running shoe designs, is the appeal of the things.

CPs are aesthetically pure, but functionally useless. They're just pretty. There's nothing wrong with that, well applied, but the better fits in this thread would certainly lose something with a prettier shoe. Not everything has to be pretty.
