Is this a trash watch?

http://www.amazon.com/Philip-Persio-Divers-Submariner-Indiglo/dp/B000JHEZ4Q/ref=pd_sbs_watch_2

for 25 bucks It must be, right?

I'm looking for a watch with the backlight thing, but I'm trying to avoid smaller watches because I've got large wrists and it feels disproportional. Any recommendations?

>> No.6988928

I've also been looking into vintage watches as a good option.

Does a fancy watch look pretentious and stupid on a obviously poor college student?

I was hoping one with a vintage look would appear more like an heirloom.

I wouldn't call it a trash watch but it's an obvious Submariner homage.

It's cheap, probably reliable, and looks nice but it's not the sort of thing that horologists or watch collectors shit themselves over.

If you're looking for a backlight, look for anything with indiglo or electro-luminescence.

Define "fancy". Lots of vintage watches have identical or near-identical styling; they all come from an era when uniformity, conformity, and conservatism in both design and lifestyle were the norm. At that time, very few things separated pin-pallet Timex's from Swiss Made watches with 17+ jewels cosmetically, other than which name was on what dial. Seeing as most of them were very minimalist in design, I don't see how one might be perceived as pretentious wearing one.

pic related is some vintage stuff that I've been working on for the past few weeks along with one quartz. Most of it is for sale. Those in the bottom row still have timing issues. Email in email field if anyone is interested.

thanks for the response and the info.

My use of fancy was in reference to larger watches with basically more "flash" than the average person would consider normal. I thrift shop often and it's pretty easy to tell, so I don't want a watch that makes me look like I'm trying to trick people into thinking I own a Rolex.

Those are some nice watches. I think I like the idea of searching for a vintage watch but if I do go with a new one I've been looking into a Casio MDV106 (pic)

That's not a bad option at all. Divers are a diamond dozen but getting one from a sufficiently reputable brand like Casio with some actual warranty behind it is recommended.
