Do any of you /fa/ggots major in fashion design? If so, how hard is it to be accepted and what skill sets are necessary to be able to even apply?

inb4 guaranteed to get no job after college with shit degree

I don't major in fashion design but I imagine a college would be looking for a portfolio of your design work.

see if the college ur going into offers sewing classes

u will know how to work the machines already and can build up ur portfolio in class

ull also prob need drawings so practice up

how good ur shit needs to be prob depends on how expensive the college is

u can just ask em for requirements too

I got to get on that.

Thanks, man. I haven't used a sewing machine before but I know how to hand sew if that even means anything. Do you suggest I should try for a more prestigious college for the connections or just choose one that's more affordable (with less student loans)?

The thing is no one in the fashion industry cares if you have a degree or not, they want ability. You might want to consider a trade school.

if ur looking for a job in the industry prob go to a fancy college

if u want to be selfmade do ur own thing w/e and can get a job elsewhere while designing a cheaper college should be fine

i'm majoring in graphic design and am pretty good at digital drawing, i will take a 1-year course on concept art (which is usually oriented towards video games, movies, etc) and use it on fashion, i don't think people do this, but that's my plan

>implying that a degree from some fancy fashion school won't help

a really fancy one, maybe a bit
but exploiting a fancy school is about your social skill and ability to network primarily, since fancy schools are higher up on the food chain, so will the type of your exposure to the industry be.

hardly, these are very busy people, they only take a quick look at the first pages of your portfolio and move on. for real, they only spend like 30 seconds, they don't care about your little diploma
