Since many of us have had backpacks on the brain in anticipation of the start of the fall semester (or high school, for some of you...), let's post some of the bags we've been thinking about.

Backpack appreciation thread.

considered this backpack for a while but then I realized

1. a backpack this loud would get a little tiresome
2. it would overpower pretty much any fit
3. imagine a suede backpack in hot weather

pretty much confirmed for cool secondary backpack but not a good primary backpack

well the way I think about it is this:

you have to wear the same backpack every day (if you use a backpack every day)

it's a big chunky thing, so it's very noticeable

it might last you years

might as well spend on a backpack if you're gonna spend on something

True. But I can't be bothered to spend my full monthly salary on it now. Gotta spend more on essentials first. My Dakine backpack is still intact, so.

Though I wish I could get that preppy hipster look I'm going for, and the gray roll tops would be the ideal bag for me.

well the problem is both of those achieve their look by using waxed canvas and nice leather, which isn't going to make itself available around your price point. There are good backpacks close to that range (though I'm not sure how expensive the ones I have in mind are in europe) but they aren't quite as menswear/heritage-looking, they're a bit more tech/outdoorsy.

One of the less expensive brands that does the style of backpack you're looking for is Makr, but it's still ~$170 for a rucksack, and more expensive in Europe (closer to 200). across the european stockists they seem to be consistently 140-150 euros. Cheapest I could find was 130 euros for a black one.

http://shop.the189.com/collections/makr-carry-goods/products/makr-carry-goods-black-canvas-farm-ruck-sack

For any other color all the UK stockists seem to be in agreement about a price of 120 GBP. The rest of Europe sticks pretty close to that.

I couldn't find any sales in the US or the UK.

As for other brands, I just don't know them well enough. I've only been in the position of wanting a more expensive backpack or wanting a cheap backpack back when I wasn't quite so discerning; so I haven't done any serious amount of research into inexpensive backpacks.

>>6876296

my younger brother has a makr rucksack; a few days ago I showed him that one and said "yo it's basically the same thing" and we both laughed. so that sort of tells you what my opinion is.

The way popular items are perceived (by snobs like me) varies geographically because the level of popularity also varies. Herschel is extremely popular in my city. They've got their own store on Queen Street, and they're carried everywhere else anyway. You can't take two steps without seeing one. It's worse because I'm a university student, so I'm always surrounded by broke university students who decided on Herschel because it's super indie and hipster (which matters a lot to first year college students). This influences the way I feel about the brand, I have to admit. I suspect it's bigger in North America than Europe, but I don't know.

The shapes of their backpacks also look a little off to me. But they're not inherently ugly, they're just... When you have a specific idea in mind of the backpacks they're imitating, they look like a cheap imitation. Also, calling yourself "supply co." and making your stuff in China is kind of... lame.

If you save up for a new one, do lots of research. With great budget comes great responsibility

(and great reward)

It's a great backpack other than two little flaws. The first is that it's a pretty small backpack. When people make comments on my backpack, most of the time its compliments, sometimes it's people wondering how I carry all my things. My other complaint is the fact that the buckle in the middle of the bag for the main strap wasn't secured very well and when I grabbed my bag from the buckle to turn it around one day, the buckle popped clean off. But other than that buckle popping off, the materials are very well made and this bag seems like it can really survive a beating. The buckle popping off isn't really even a problem either, since the main pocket is also a draw string type bag. But while I do like the bag, it was fairly expensive for what it is.

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it.

Have you tried fitting a laptop in it? Does it prevent the drawstring from closing properly? I've never owned a drawstring/flap backpack before and in my head it's just a big gate for water to get in. There aren't any reviews for this bag online

"lel its cheap n ugly, my buvkles arent plastic so im trve fashion"
Yeah you're fucking retarded. I just liked the backpack. I've owned and currently own more expensive bags, I just bought this bag because I'm not a twelve year old and I spend my money on what I think looks good and don't just spend more money for the sake of spending more money.
Also, that bag has actually had its 15 minutes of fame on 4chan before, so in no way do I care what a skeezelord spergatron buckle-fascist like you has to say. I just wanted to give my opinion on a bag.

While you're here, could I get a little review from you?

Thinking of copping, how does it suit fits? How waterproof would you say it is from 1-10?

Wow, I don't have it very long. I wore it while raining a view times and it seems to be pretty water proof.

It suits my fits very well but I mostly wear black. The cyan... part (don't knof the fitting english word) doesn't really bother me. maybe it's an issue if you're completely in black but it does not really hurt the look.

If you need to get something big out of it fast it can be a bitch tho because of the rope.
