not a piece but givenchy generally. i've been here for a while but i can't remember many off the top of my head. /fa/ is a hivemind most of the time but i guess some can't accept the rafdidas. i personally like them a lot and plan to buy a pair eventually

I wish /fa/ disagreed with each other without having totally opposed aesthetic ideas more often. Half the time when someone rips on Rafdidas it's because they like #menswear and don't even get what Raf was trying to achieve. It lowers the level of discourse considerably when people resort to that.

I don't think different styles should be quarantined to different boards or different websites. I think cross-pollination of ideas from different styles is a great thing. But when you have one person saying "get real men's shoes" and another saying "dadcore gb2 >>>/reddit/" it's so pointless

hmm i've never really put a lot of thought into it. i can get why people find them ugly, some people like them for being "ironically" ugly and kind of a mock of that classic silhouette with higher production quality and maybe a more cohesive/sleek color pallette. however i actually find them to be really aesthetically pleasing. although in an outfit i've never seen them pulled off without a black bottom

Speaking of Comme Des Garcons does anybody give a shit about Play? Whenever I've seen that line in stores the pieces have looked pretty unappealing. It just seems like they're clothes for people who want to wear Comme Des Garcons for the name, and want everyone to know that they're wearing 'high fashion', but don't want to pay Comme Des Garcons prices. Maybe I'm just cynical though. Diffusion lines sometimes strike me as quick money grabs that bank on people wanting to look like they're into fashion (especially Play and T by A Wang)

As someone who still owns a couple pairs of Visvim shoes, the claims of quality are greatly exaggerated.
What is the point of vegetable tanned elk leather when it's just a glued-on sole?
Visvim is overpriced for the most part - their denim jeans and jackets in particular - many use blended polyester in the cotton.
The claims of price being in direct relation to quality is untrue. And the design aspects of the brand have never been that strong, just the styling of fantastic seasons like AW09 and AW10. Visvim is very much a joke at this point.

I think they're pushing a pretty unique and well-designed product. Like any other brand/designer some products are pretty weak, but they've made some cool stuff recently

So I don't know that I'd call them a joke. I do think they need to drop the bullshit about quality, but I think their aesthetic is still unique and relevant

My opinion is this:

As a clothing item based on appearance alone, I find that they're really gawdy, sort of uninspired when it comes to design, and look like some neckbearded magic player would wear them because they were cheap.

As a clothing item based upon what they were actually inspired by and how they're supposed to be viewed and worn, I think they're kinda neat and would probably add a nice splash of color and counterpoint to the Raf monochromatic scheme and the whole of contemporary minimalist fashion.

As a work of art, I think they're actually really fantastic, as they're obviously New Balance or Asics derived but they hold a high price tag and brand name with these muted, sort of corrupted looking color scheme in the way that they look very low contrast and like you're looking at them through a broken CRT TV, like they came from the 80s or 90s but the door that let them through corrupted their color and made them muted and quiet. They're beautiful in that aspect, like how they're total throwbacks but in a broken style.

In short, I would never wear them because I would not find them aesthetically pleasing on my body nor does it fit anything in my wardrobe. I do, however, appreciate what RAF is doing on an artistic and meaningful level and I hope he continues his work.
