I think it's hard to draw hard and fast conclusions about manufacturing and build quality in certain countries, especially nations that serve as enormous factories for the insatiable western appetite. There are so many tiers of manufacturing in a country like China that you're better off going by the manufacturer and not the nation.
Nike, for example, supposedly got its act together after being excoriated in the 90's for running what amounted to sweatshops all over southeast asia. But is there any way to be sure?
