/fa/ first-hand disappointment experiences

>first time feeling Visvim boots in person (ones in picture)
>giddy
>thisisgonnabegoodohman
>they cost like a thousand bucks I better handle with care
>so glad no salesmen are looking at me right now
>feel it

>...

>eh it's actually not as nice as some of my boots
>suddenly I'm not sure why it costs so much
>feels more like $500 or $600
>I guess you're paying for style

>...

>That's kind of disappointing

Yeah, I once put on this cheap Casio watch for $24.95. I immediately took it off because it actually felt like $21.99. I guess I am just paying for shipping and handling.

well this was supposed to be a really cool brand

people hyped it because it was so nice, such quality, etc

It's easy to get unrealistic expectations when you do most of your 'experiencing' of garments through jpegs and descriptions. maybe that makes me an idiot.

>>6808810
I already know what Viberg's like, I thought Visvim wouldn't be a step down but a step sideways. I was wrong. Now I'm jaded I guess

I was looking at some tshirts at Wal Mart. They had them discounted at $4.68 each. I tried one on, but it felt like a shirt that could be sold at $4.65. I know that Wal Mart was trying to cruise me out of $0.03. I ended up not buying that shirt, but I got some socks instead for $1.99. Those socks, in the end, weren't worth the $1.99 because they gave me rashes around the ankle. I would only have paid $1.50 to get rashes around my ankles.

>> No.6808890

I once tried on a Charvet dress shirt and after I checked the price tag I thought, "Surely this should only cost $389 dollars because I've worn a few shirts in my day"

I once had a friend perform an impromptu abortion on my pregnant girlfriend. He charged me $300 for the procedure. An hour into the procedure, he gave my girlfriend an embolism, tore up her uterus, fistula, and an HIV infection. Of course, I was disappointed because I would have only paid $125 to give my significant other an embolism, a torn up uterus, fistula, and HIV.

Buying Visvim outside of Japan is WAY more expensive. The brig boots are actually retailed for $815, and the $180 pocket tee is actually around $110 if I remember correctly

Still expensive as fuck thou

Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about.

The other thing is how much the internet hypes up durability, I think most people at this point have the perception that they can buy one pair of heritage boots and that they're going to last them 25 years. I've grown accustomed to it now but there was definitely a time when I would buy something and if it would show visible signs of wear within a month I would be seriously disappointed.

I still can't get over graphics fading after the first wash though, at this point I just straight up don't buy anything with a print on it unless I can imagine it looking 20% more faded and still being any good.

>The other thing is how much the internet hypes up durability
THISSSSS

I think there's a degree of merit to it but the larger motivation is petty exaggerated justification for spending so much money on clothing.

>I'm not rich enough to buy cheap things
>buy nice or buy twice
etc.

my rich chinese friend has several different visvim boots/shoes, and they are not $1k quality
fucker has
- serras
- those fuckin $1000 folk boots
- christo sandals
- 2 or 3 pairs of moc shoes

I think its a fair point you raise op, I'm not well schooled in the brand but seems to me the quality / rugged aspect forms a big part of the hype for visvim

disappointing experience for me would be a recent cop from clothsurgeon. I know it's a one man show but to get an order confirmation like a week late, slow shipping and then to have piece just fall out of the parcel with no packaging or embellishment at all just felt cheap tbh. not even a bag or a fuckin receipt. packaging and whatnot is such an enjoyable aspect to shit like this and so important to presentation imo

It's all my most significant posts, I didn't know there was an /fa/ archive until someone linked it last night. I re-read all my posts and realized I'm one of the highest calibre unpaid fashion writers on the internet. So I threw the best posts in that link and now I'm going to cart it around whenever I post.

That feel when I don't post on any fashion site besides /fa/ and have been on 4chan since 2005. I could go anywhere I want but it wasn't my decision to make. I didn't choose /fa/ it was /fa/ who chose me.

You're going to have to come to terms with it sooner or later.

He just said he's been on 4chan since 2005

He's previously said he lurks sz and doesn't post. It's reasonable to assume he approaches other websites in the same way.

I wouldn't be surprised if he lurked HB as well out of curiosity though I'd understand why he wouldn't talk about it like he talks about his experiences from sz.

Simple designer sneaks, slim black jeans, single colour t-shirts, and blazers = my de-facto uniform. Then when I feel like dressing up I wear trousers, dress shirts, oxfords, and blazers. When I feel like dressing crazy I wear oversized fashion shit. When I feel like dressing hard I wear milspec / techwear.

But I'm sort of in the process of wanting to pare down my wardrobe immensely and return to serious minimalism. I was thinking like 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of black jeans, 1 black blazer, and then having like 30 different polos, 1 from each of my favourite designers because pretty much everyone regardless of aesthetic or price point does a polo.

At the moment I have like 30 different designers pieces, each one from a different designer, and it either integrates into my uniform or ends up in one of the other categories but I can't really mix all of them together.

I want to go back to when everything in my wardrobe could be mixed with everything else but I also kind of feel maybe that's too idealistic and I'm not going to lie I don't know if I could give up my ability to transform into a techwear soldier or circa 2007 club kid. The uniform is comforting but it's more comforting to always be able to mix it up.
