Shoes are fine, but not with that outfit. Brown or dark brown oxfords. With a semi-formal preppy outfit you don't want patent (shiny) leather shoes. Go with something more matte like suede.

This is bad for a various reasons.
The sweater is a tad too bright, the pants are too wrinkly and way too short, and the shoes are too shiny and a crappy color. I can't tell what color the tie is, but if it's black, then you did bad.

To fix this: get pants that aren't fucking high waters. High waters only work with very specific outfits, usually the really spring/summer kind. This looks too autumn to work with it. The shoes need to be a different color, as well. Black and tan look crappy together. I'd suggest navy. Also, if you're gonna get leather shoes, avoid shiny ones at all costs. They look try hard no matter how you wear them.

It might be the lighting, yeah. But take a second look at the sweater to make sure, though. It should be rich, but not neon.

I'm probably really biased, but I just don't like black. Black with tan, though, I'm pretty sure most would agree, is just not a good combo. The outfit seems really nice, you just need to vary color more. A good outfit has a variety of colors without being too much. Colors don't only go with one other color, but there's groups of colors that look good together. If you swapped out the tie and shoes for two other colors that go well with what's already there, then you'd have a pretty solid outfit.

Definitely look into color theory and whatnot. You seem to be along the right track, but just need a little extra to really be /fa/.

Also, I agree with what was said above, too- the pants are too short and wrinkly and the sweater looks too big.
