are navy and black a no-go, /fa/?

I was trying on a navy blue jacket with my sister and she told me not to cop because I always wear black jeans, and she said that "navy and black dont go together" and that "it looks like you were trying to match the colours but didnt"

is this true?

>> No.6757479

kind of. If the blue is too close to the black

>> No.6757489

yohji puts together navy and black all the time

>> No.6757520

Nothing wrong imo. I make sure everyone of my fits has something white or blue in them so I don't look like a complete autist

I used to say the same thing as your sister. But I've recently forced myself to wear navy and black, and it's not so bad. You have to make sure it looks intentional, like don't wear a navy that's such a dark hue that it looks black, nor a black that's faded to looking blue.

>> No.6757551

imho it's the same as wearing a slightly faded black piece or a rly dark grey one.

>> No.6757562

IMO it isn't bad unless you look like youre going for an all black look, but one piece is out of place.
my suggestion is wearing some white or lighter greys along with navy and black

>> No.6757604

No, navy and black works great together. The "rule" she's misinterpreting is that people trying to wear all-black often mismatch shades.

>> No.6758314

don't want to start a new thread so
navy shoes(plain toe dress shoe) with blue denim pants a bad idea? I was considering brown but I feel I could never wear them with black jeans and with blue denim they would just make my feet look cut off.

tl;dr

navy plain toe shoe, or brown which is more versitle?
most my pants are black and blue.

p-pls respond

btw the fit looks great

that rule is some bullshit, dunno why anyone thinks there's a problem with the combo

Nah man I love navy and black. A navy tee worn beneath an otherwise blacked out outfit really stands out in its own subverted way.

Imagine if every guy you knew who didn't give a shit about fashion started advising you on your clothing purchases. This is what girls who aren't into fashion do.

Navy would be more versatile tho I'm biased since I never do brown shoes.

For Pete's sake, man, if you don't already have brown shoes then get yourself the brown AND the navy ones.

I think if you're at the stage where you don't know if you can wear brown shoes then you need to splash out and experiment just a teensy little bit.

As an aside, quality brown dress shoes are perhaps the easiest thing in men's fashion to try and find second hand. The experiment shouldn't even cost you.

nice fit but i'd lose the scarf
what are the cargos?

>> No.6758846

depends on the palette
if everything you're wearing is equally dark then yes, if something contrasts the two colours heavily like black + navy + pink, the black and navy will compete instead of mix.

if your sister actually said that though you're probably doing something wrong, OP pic is quite fine though.

black and blue particularly are the easiest two colours as similar as they are that can be put together pretty often without that 'looks like you tried to match' rule screwing shit up,

thanks for the advice. I went with the navy for now but I will consider brown for next time.

lelsaints top/pants? looks good.

>> No.6758885

My rule is if they are two different items... don't do it. but if it's navy and black in one item, go for it. if you're looking for dull colours to go with navy, you can't go wrong with grey.

What about these?

Being a mix of black with a blue shine/aroma to the leather, would the match with black?

>> No.6763517

>>6761920
Kinda have the same question.

I consider buying them, but at first i wanted the black ones since I think it'd fit better with black pants. Probably will cop.
