Whats makes /fa/ so high on the fashion ranking to judge others? as far ive noticed ppl here only follow and regurgitate from what they read from the sticky. whats /fa/ credibility in all this shit? As a fashion major in cali( yea im better than you), I only judge myself not others.

>> No.6709770

Fuccboi here. All I know is what I think looks nice. All judgement I pass is only my opinion.

ok, iamma break you on somehting real knowledge like k?

/fa/ is a place where ppl talk about fashion, ppl talk about their opinions on trends, brands, designers and styles.

>some ppl also like to express their opinions on things other ppl are wearing, crazy I know.

but you see, what happens when someone says something someone else doesn't agree with?

they don't give a fucking shit about what some stranger on the internet who has a completely different range of interests and aesthetic prefrences says about their outfit or what they think looks good, and then they go on to wear what they want to, or what they think looks good.

eveyone has opinions of what looks good. and if you 'actually' let these peoples opinions effect your style then your REALLY doing it wrong.

I spend lots of money on designer clothes and experiment with different kinds of styles (I even add color sometimes, but only if it is heavily muted). I live in a major, cosmopolitan city and work in a creative industry.

I think I have good judgment on clothes too. I see hundreds of people every day, most of whom make way over 6 figs and could buy nicer clothes if they could

>> No.6711910

lol people complaining about this thread being repeated
and yet everyday we see "gothninja" theards
the same fucking photos everytime
this boards elitism much like /mu/'s is retarded
how can you be so superior when the only thing that led you to be was using someone elses opinion of an internet forum?
it's sad when the only people on either /mu/ or /fa/ that you can tell were actually interested in music or fashion prior are usually the trips

Having interviewed many for jobs, I have never met a person who majored in a fashion course that I have wanted to hire, mostly because they have no real skills or workplace experience that would make them a valuable worker.

A few different things: sales positions, buyer's assistants, interns, social media jobs. In general, people who have a degree from a four-year university and genuinely care about fashion are much more motivated and talented than kids who go to fashion schools. You can get into practically any fashion design or merchandising or marketing program if you're able to pay the tuition/get a loan and you aren't completely idiotic, but there's no real rigor to those programs.

I have to disagree when it comes to my uni the courses are definitely rigorous...but in general, I agree with you.

And the reason why you find people who go to fashion schools are less motivated is probably because you're not really hiring for the position they actually want. They're settling.

> people only regurgitate the sticky

The sticky was rebuilt to reflect the opinions of /fa. If you look through the sticky, most of it came from stuff people said on /fa. They aren't regurgitating some sticky's opinion.

Given how many I've met, I think I have a pretty decent sample on which to base my generalizations. I'm not saying you're dumb (though maybe you are, who knows?), I'm just saying that extremely serious design course (RISD, Parson's, FIT, Royal Academy, ESMOD) produce students of superior quality and that the proliferation of pay-to-attend schools means there's a glut of untalented, undereducated, under-qualified people wanting to "work in fashion".

*clarification I'm at a 4 year BFA at one of those schools. I thought your previous post was saying that a 4 year degree at a completely un-fashion-related major but with passion for fashion = better hire than a fashion degree major.

>> No.6715536

>>6715423
Is it more worth it to do non-fashion bachelor's, then post-grad at e.g. Parson's or to try to get on the job experience?

>> No.6715537

>fashion major

you might know about clothes but you're still an idiot jesus christ

>> No.6715580

>>6715536
Depends on specifically what field you're going for. If you want to do design, the best choice (IMHO) unequivocally would be to do the undergrad BFA, because you really do need to know the stuff they teach. Good luck trying to find any place that will take you with zero experience/learning in that field.

If you're doing merchandising or something, you have a better chance that the above at finding an internship or something, but it will likely be an unpaid internship. Frankly, companies give unpaid internships to people *with* degrees, so just a heads up you better be something really fucking special.

Basically, some pedigree is better than nothing. For a lot of jobs having a big name like Parsons or FIT can be the way you get your foot in the door.
